Nauru records Covid case in quarantine

The positive result was detected during testing in a government-managed quarantine facility on Monday evening.

The case is the fourth reported for Nauru.  

President Lionel Aingimea announced this morning that the person displayed mild symptoms of fever but otherwise stable and well.

This is the only active case today.

All previous cases have recovered and are no longer active.

The person travelled on the Sunday 24 April flight from Brisbane to Nauru has been in quarantine since then. This is the only case detected from Sunday’s flight.

Second Nauru Resident Magistrate sworn-in

Mr Rupasinghe was officially sworn-in to his post as Resident Magistrate on Friday, 22 April in the presence of the Minister for Justice, Maverick Eoe and Acting Chief Justice Khan.

Mr Rupasinghe is a qualified attorney at law of Sri Lanka and Barrister of Fiji, who possesses a Bachelor of Law Degree and 15 years plus civil & criminal litigation experience at every level of local courts of law & former Magistrate of Fiji.

Japan donates ambulance to Nauru

The ambulance worth $137,000, will further increase the hospital’s capacity to respond to medical emergencies.

This is the third ambulance in the fleet.

The donation of the ambulance is implemented through the Japan Grassroots Grants Assistance Projects (GGP) Scheme.

Nauru Health Minister Isabella Dageago and Deputy Minister Pyon Deiye attended the presentation.

Nauru Health authorities issue caution against Kinder chocolate products

The outbreak is possibly linked to chocolates distributed internationally from a Kinder chocolate factory in Belgium, the ministry said in a statement.

Members of the public are advised not to consume or purchase the listed chocolates.

The ministry said considering that these egg-shaped chocolates are a favourite for shoppers during the looming Easter celebration.

Australia supports “’say no to bullies’ school programme in Nauru

The funding, signed this week between Secretary for Sports Dagan Kaierua and Deputy Australian High Commissioner Andrew Hodges is to support the operational aspects of the upcoming school holiday sports programme.

A more permanent structure was planned with an Australian-based company contracted to install the equipment, but Covid hindered travel and delivery of equipment.

Kaierua said in light of the delay and funding timeline, acquiring portable equipment would get the programme going.

Nauru border Covid cases get all clear

The three cases from the 31 March flight from Brisbane who had been isolating at the hospital’s negative pressure Acute Covid Unit, were cleared yesterday for release back into the community.

A statement said it has been more than the minimum required 10 days since the three cases were infected with Covid and all have remained well and free of symptoms whilst under medical observation.

They also returned negative PCR test results yesterday confirming they are no longer infected and confirming earlier test results showing that they are not contagious.

They continue to be monitored closely.

All other passengers in quarantine at the Budapest Hotel and the Anibare Village transit station are also well.

Public Health will continue to do tests until they are finally released back into the community after they produce negative PCR tests.

Vaccination updates

12 to 17 year olds have exceeded the estimated population hitting 102 per cent for the first dose; while 81 per cent are fully vaccinated.

ICT signs MoU to get submarine cable rolling

The submarine cable is now being funded substantially by the United States, Australia and Japan after initial developers the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) pulled out.

After putting pen to paper, Mr. Harris thanked Australia and the partners involved in the project as the venture will improve connectivity and open Nauru up to the world in terms of economic and social prosperity including the assistance ICT will receive to deal with Cyber security.

Movement restricted at Nauru hospital

The cases are now in containment at the acute ward negative pressure unit.

Nauru Media News reports frontline officers at the front gate are screening everyone going to the hospital.

The protocol covers all visitors, staff and outpatients.

The public has been advised to cooperate with the frontline team in order for the screening operation to run smooth and everyone can continue with their business in the hospital.

Nauru reports Covid-19 case in quarantine

Three people travelled on a passenger flight on 31 March and were placed in the Covid Acute Ward after two of them tested positive while in hotel quarantine.

The third person who tested positive last night is the spouse of one of the first two cases.

These three people are well and asymptomatic and will remain in the Acute Ward for further observation and testing.

Everyone else in quarantine at the Budapest Hotel and Anibare Village Transit Station are still negative.

Their time in quarantine has been extended to Monday 11 April.
