In the margins of said session above, Minister Cook also attended the AOSIS Ministerial meeting that was scheduled on the 24th of September to discuss key AOSIS positions towards Paris COP 21 and to reflect on work completed relating to sustainable development agendas, such as the S.A.M.O.A Pathway, the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the Financing for Development.

The workshop was carried out by Paul Stein who came all the way from Western Australia and is a Master Instructor on Rock and Water.

Rock and Water started in Holland and now it’s been practiced in some other countries like China and Australia just to name a few. It is basic learning on how to control yourself from your emotions, such as anger, stress and pain.

It is also a lesson on how not to become a bully’s target, how to learn body languages, learn to trust, and a whole lot more you can get out of this program.

Mr Adeang said the Nauru Government has a close and cooperative working relationship with Australian immigration authorities and that Mr Dutton has always been a good friend of Nauru.

“A new minister always breaks continuity in some way, and Mr Dutton has spent considerable time getting to know Nauru, our culture, and many of our people,” he said.

“He understands the progress our Government has made, has many connections here, and is always available when we need to discuss the ongoing partnership.

The organization Save the Children funded the visit as part of their community engagement programs and they worked with AFL Nauru, Connect and AFL Australia to make it happen.

On September 9, retired AFL star David Rodan accompanied by AFL Ben Drew arrived in Nauru.

The Government of the Nauru issued the ban on transshipping in its waters outside its port, and is calling on other Pacific Island Nations to do the same. A regular industry practice that is largely unmonitored, transshipping involves fishing vessels - longliners - transferring their catch to ‘motherships’ to be taken and sold in far-away markets. This means that boats can stay out at sea for years, evading checks on their fishing practices and licenses, and the treatment of their crew.

The Nauru Fisheries and Marine Resources Authority says the crackdown on vessels unloading their catch to "motherships" at sea would help "end the laundering of fish" by high seas "pirates".

Senator Sarah Hanson-Young says Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull must show leadership and compassion by releasing all children and families from Australian run detention camp on Nauru.

She says Australia is ready for compassion and it is time children were taken off of Nauru, once and for all.

Ms Hanson-Young says there has been shocking evidence about children being exposed to abuse from guards on Nauru and this is an opportunity for the new Prime Minister to draw a line in the sand.
