Australia hires seasonal workers from Kiribati, Tuvalu and Nauru

Australian High Commissioner to Kiribati George Fraser told Radio Kiribati News there is now no maximum number of people required to work in Australia from Kiribati and other Pacific Island nations.

24 participants complete HR course

A graduation ceremony was held Thursday where students performed a special cultural chant called the “Ruwo” and a local dance.

The chief guest was AHRI’s representative Paul Beagley.

AHRI has a training contract with the Government of the Republic of Nauru to deliver a range of HR courses in 2015.

The Nauru Public Service has been undergoing significant public sector reform and transformation and their HR department is endeavouring to make inroads and improvements across their HR department.

Nauru sevens team keen to learn and improve

It will be only Nauru's second-ever international rugby appearance, after making their debut at the Pacific Games in July, where they finished winless and last in the men's competition.

But the footballing minnows from Nauru stand in the way of the Australian men’s sevens team qualifying for next year’s Rio Olympics.

The tiny Pacific island is Australia’s first pool opponent in the Oceania Regional Olympic qualifier in Auckland this weekend.

To help prepare for the tournament the team went into camp last weekend — at the coach’s home — where they had team bonding, training, video sessions and team talks.

Nauru commemorates Remembrance Day

The President of Nauru Baron Waqa placed a wreath outside the Government Office to commemorate Remembrance Day which is held on November 11.

The President was joined by Ministers, heads of departments and guests at a special ceremony.

Members of the Nauru Police Force mounted a special guard of honour at the memorial.

This was followed by a flag raising ceremony.

Guests also observed two minutes of silence for fallen soldiers.

Nauru Primary School holds Market Day

Students of Nauru Primary School got the opportunity to show their entrepreneurial skills at a Market Day held at the school today.

Some students became stall keepers for the day selling books,stationery, food and locally-made items including hair accessories, bangles and earrings.

The Market Day is very popular with students where they get to be store-keepers.

Dozens of families and friends visited the school at State side to support the children and the school.

Ten per cent of profits made by the children go to the school.

FAO conducts food security workshop in Nauru

The Department of Health Nauru, in collaboration with Food Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization (WHO), held a one day workshop on “Strengthening Food Control Capacity in Nauru” with representatives of local communities.

The workshop was conducted by FAO’s Consultant Dennis Bittisnich and the main issues were how to improve food safety, what problems consumers are facing on Nauru regarding food labelling, food imports and inspections, and how these problems can be solved.

Nauru holds annual choral competition

Menen Sunday School picked up the main prize in the annual choral competition organised for Sunday school churches in Nauru.

This is the second year that children of the Sunday school won the trophy.

Menen Sunday School also won the prize for the best marching.

The winner of the Best Uniform went to Orro Sunday School.

The choral competition was organised by the combined women’s fellowship on Thursday, November 5.

Nauru Airlines will begin weekly services to Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia from Friday, 20th November.
