11,258 new cases, 76 further deaths attributed to the virus in NZ

Of the new cases, 4712 were reinfections.

RNZ reports there were also 211 people with Covid-19 in hospital as of midnight Sunday, with seven cases in ICU.

The seven-day rolling average of cases was 1605.

Last week 11,544 new cases were reported and 12 further deaths attributed to Covid-19.

New Zealand reports 9100 new cases, 40 deaths and 200 in hospital

Of the new cases, were 3813 reinfections.

Of the deaths being reported today, one was from Northland, 15 were from the Auckland region, two were from Hawke's Bay, two were from Taranaki, one was from MidCentral, two were from Whanganui, five were from Wellington region, three were from Nelson Marlborough, four were from Canterbury, one was from West Coast and three were from Southern.

Nauru reports 127 new Covid cases, 219 active cases

According to the latest situational report, 127 are new cases of Covid and this is a 90 per cent increase compared to the same time last week.

The island nation is now experiencing the second wave of Covid-19 and further case numbers are expected to increase.

The highest number of new cases of 84 is reported in the 18-49 years age group.

Thirteen new cases are in the 0-4 years age group.

The report released yesterday said 419 people have been identified as ‘close contacts’ and are under quarantine.

Covid number increasing in French Polynesia

There are now 400 active cases.

RNZ Pacific reports four people with Covid-19 are in hospital - one of them in intensive care.

Local television says one Covid-9 patient died in hospital last week, but the death has not been included in the pandemic's tally.

There have been repeated calls for people to update their vaccination status as only 23 percent of those over 60 have had a booster.

Last year when the territory was hit by an outbreak of the Delta variant, more than 600 people died, of whom more than 94 percent had not been vaccinated.

     

Covid scuppers news coverage in Wallis & Futuna

Too many staff have been affected by the resurgence of the pandemic which since June has caused almost 1800 infections.

The station will instead carry French news.

In Wallis, the outbreak peaked last week, and health authorities expect it to climax in Futuna at the end of the month.

Number of Australians who have had Covid-19 jumps in June survey

Researchers have conducted their second "serosurvey", testing blood donations for the presence of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, to find the prevalence of infection had almost tripled since late February when it was estimated to be 17 per cent.

Kirby Institute senior research fellow Dr Dorothy Machalek said while the results revealed there was a "huge amount" of community transmission, it was not a surprise.

Nauru continues to record new Covid-19 cases

This was confirmed in an announcement by the President, Lionel Aingimea.

He said the results was from the 237 tests that was carried out by the Ministry of Health last week.

A total of 2,402 cases have recovered and one death from the virus.

Ten cases have been admitted to the Acute Care Unit with an additional three carers, four patients with moderate cases and six patients with mild or no Covid symptoms but have underlying illness.

A total of 158 houses are in lockdown with 1,730 residents.

Nearly half of Nauru has had Covid

Nearly 1600 cases have recovered, meaning about half of the island's population has been infected in a matter of weeks.

There are nine cases in the hospital's Acute Care Unit.

     

Covid-19 cases on Nauru now over 3000

With 381 new cases, there are now 3,161 active cases.

There are 11 people in the hospital's Acute Care Unit.

Altogether there are now 362 houses in lockdown.

The government is delivering cartons of water, noodles and eggs to these houses.

     

Covid cases in Nauru increase

There are now 2392 active cases in the community.

President Lionel Aingimea said 53 percent or approximately one in two people tested are positive.

Eight people are in the Acute Care Unit in the hospital.

There are three moderate to severe cases in the hospital, two are adults with underlying illnesses, and one is a child with a high fever.

A prohibition order on mass gatherings has been issued prohibiting a long list of social activities in order to slow the spread of the virus.
