New Apple TV supports Bluetooth headphones

9to5 Mac has put the set-top box through its paces and discovered several features that Apple neglected to mention when it announced the device on September 9.

Along with support for external audio hardware, the next-generation Apple TV includes a 'night mode' that cranks down the volume of everything but speech.

No more waking the household when you're watching a Michael Bay movie late at night and the explosions start kicking off.

The set-top box will also download and set new screensavers automatically to keep your television screen looking fresh.

Overnight phone charging does not destroy the battery

Answering a question on Quora, tech writer Jesse Hollington refuted recent reports that overnight charging does lasting damage.

"You simply can't overcharge an iPhone, or any other modern electronic device, for that matter," wrote Hollington. "When your iPhone is plugged in and reaches 100%, it switches to external power and simply runs from that."

The explanation is that any device that uses a Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer battery must incorporate a charging circuit that cuts off charging power when it hits 100%.

iOS 9 gets hit by download errors

Some iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users and developers are reporting difficulty downloading Apple's latest operating system update, with 'Software Update Failed' error messages prevalent.

Fan site 9to5Mac reports the error for over-the-air users could be related to server load trouble.

Earlier today, Apple delayed the release of its iPhone and iPad-friendly iOS 9 patch watchOS at the very last minute.

Four ways to reuse, resell and recycle Apple phones

Instead of sentencing it to a lonely existence in a desk drawer, there are plenty of ways to reuse, recycle or resell older phones. Here are a few:

Several charities accept old phones for donation, though it's worth remembering that these groups probably won't physically give your old phones to people in need. Rather, they work with phone recyclers and sell your donated phones to them.

iPhone 6S pre-orders now available ahead of September 25 release

With Apple flinging open its virtual doors at 8:01am BST today (September 12), extra eager iPhone fans can now secure the company's latest mobile wares ahead of in-store availability on September 25.

It's not alone, either. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6S has hit pre-order listings alongside its big brother, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6S Plus.

The handsets were unveiled earlier this week and added a new pressure sensitive 3D Touch display and 12-megapixel camera into a body markedly similar to last year's iPhone 6.

iPhone 6S vs Samsung Galaxy S6, which is best

The cream of the iOS and Android crops, these two flagship phones have edged the battle for smartphone supremacy closer than ever before. Both will set you back considerable sums of money and neither will disappoint on the features front, but which is the best?

The iPhone 6S, like its predecessor, oozes style and sophistication despite being slightly plumper than its predecessor in a bid to avoid more Bendgate woes. At a streamlined 7.1mm thick, the elegant brushed metal body has added 0.2mm to its flowing, curvaceous waistline.

iPad Pro lands as 12.9-inch slate

Landing as a 12.9-inch tablet, the iPad Pro is notable bigger than the 9.7-inch traditional model and will dwarf the 7.9-inch iPad mini.

"iPad is the clearest expression for our vision of the future of personal computing. A simple, multi touch piece of glass that instantly transform into virtually anything you want it to be," Apple CEO, Tim Cook said in unveiling the slate. "Today, we have the biggest news in iPad, since the iPad."

The Pro's 12.9-inch panel features a stunning 5.6million pixels, with the slate's sizeable width the same as the height of the iPad Air 2.

Hands-on with Samsung's first round Apple Watch rival

The result of this wearable soul-searching is the Samsung Gear S2, a stunningly finished round wearable that is ready to bring the fight to Apple's market-leading offering.

With all the usual smartwatch gumph present - as well as a few innovative surprises - the Gear S2's refinement is a pleasant surprise, and one which makes this a serious wearable to consider.

Samsung seek piece of nascent smartwatch market

Apple Watch was the leading smartwatch in the second quarter, with an estimated 4 million shipped worldwide, for a market share of more than 75 percent, according to Strategy Analytics. Samsung was a distant second with 400,000 shipped and a 7.5 percent market share.

However, the market is still nascent, and Apple Watch isn't an option for people who use Android smartphones.

Samsung's Gear S2 will work on Android - and for the first time, not just Samsung's Android phones. Meanwhile, watches running Google's Android Wear software will now work with Apple's iPhones.
