Nauru to commemorate World Environment Day

World Environment Day is celebrated annually around the world to encourage environmental actions and awareness.

This year’s theme is “Solutions to plastic pollution.”

With the increasing impacts of plastic pollution and other factors that contributes to plastic pollution, acting on the matter can make a difference.

Results for the competitions will be announced at the Centennial hall from 9am to 3pm on Monday.

Stalls prepared by the various schools will also be displayed.

 

     

Nauru commemorates World Environment Day

The general public, schools and stakeholders were hosted to the event that was held at the Centennial Hall.

Apart from the government’s department, the Yaren Primary School, Sacred Heart College, Nauru Secondary School, Nauru College, Able Disable and the Taiwan Technical Mission School set up stalls at the event.

DCIE said, “There was a pop quiz competition held at the event and there was free sausage sizzle and popcorn provided for free. There was a cake competition as well with some cakes entering the event displayed at the event on the stage.”

Nauru commemorates World Environment Day with kitchen garden competition

The winners of the ‘Kiao Oangam’ (grow your food) competition will be announced tomorrow.

The competition is hosted annually by the Department of Commerce, Industry and Environment to celebrate World Environment Day.

The farmers were judged for root crops and vegetables that were given out for free every month by DCIE and Taiwan Technical Mission.

Judges for the competition included; Joe from (TTM), Bern from DCIE agriculture division and Jeson from DCIE environment division.

RON Hospital initiates month-long clean-up

Nauru Media News – NTV reports the clean-up was held from 7am to 1pm with many health staffs and organizations in Canstruct, Nauru plastic, smart kids including church groups and others volunteering their time to assist in the initiative.

The campaign titled “Environment friendly clean-up month” will focus firstly on Ron Hospital first then Nauru Public Health.
