Warriors play-off hopes hang in balance

With only two games remaining - against the Raiders and the Titans - the Warriors will be relying on other results to go their way if they are to make the top eight.

They were punished for a slow start at Suncorp Stadium, going 12-0 down after 25 minutes.

The Broncos' Storm-bound winger Xavier Coates provided Brisbane with a glimpse of what they'll be missing next year with two well-taken first-half tries.

'Everyone in firing line' as Broncos tell Pangai he's free to leave

Walters confirmed after the club's 46-0 loss to South Sydney that second rower Tevita Pangai Junior had been told he was free to leave Brisbane and he won't be the only big name tapped on the shoulder with a roster and staff overhaul to fix the club's mess.

No position is safe at Red Hill, from the playing field to the football administration as Walters prepares to put a broom through the joint after a dreadful past few seasons.

"If we don't change things they're going to stay the same," Walters said.

Broncos sign Danny Levi for remainder of 2021

The 25-year-old has played 103 NRL games for the Newcastle Knights and Manly - including 20 for the Sea Eagles last season - as well as four Test Matches for New Zealand in 2017.

This season he has been playing for the Broncos Affiliate Norths Devils in the Intrust Super Cup, and has been instrumental in their unbeaten start to 2021.

Broncos Head Coach Kevin Walters said: "We have signed Danny to give us some much needed depth in the hooking position behind Jake Turpin who has been very good for us to start the season.

Broncos culture rebuild faces first test after Haas arrest

Haas will front Tweed Heads Local Court on February 2 after he was charged with using offensive language and intimidating police on Saturday night.

The NSW and Australian Test prop is also under investigation from the NRL Integrity Unit but will continue to train with Brisbane until his court appearance.

Haas is alleged to have been aggressive and abusive towards police when they approached he and his partner on Saturday night in Tweed Heads.

Pangai will fire again, Lodge and Ofahengaue staying: Walters

Walters oversaw his first training session in charge of the Broncos on Monday and was glowing in his praise of Pangai after the controversial forward performed strongly in a time trial with other players, including former Sharks and Titans playmaker Albert Kelly.

Former Papua New Guinea captain David Mead, who has been playing with Catalans in the Super League, is in negotiations with Brisbane and Walters believes he and Kelly – on a train and trial contract after four years with Hull FC – will provide experience in the backs.

Titans brace for Fifita fire and target historic win over Broncos

No Gold Coast side has ever beaten the Broncos twice in a season, dating back to 1988, and after winning the round seven clash 30-12 at Suncorp Stadium the Titans have the chance to secure an historic double at Cbus Super Stadium.

Broncos coach Peter Gentle said last week he hoped Titans-bound Fifita would "show them what they are getting" in the clash. After two wins on the trot Gold Coast captain Jamal Fogarty said he was wary of Fifita but determined to send him home a loser.

Broncos cleared to play but may still face sanctions over pub visit

The Broncos issued a statement on Wednesday saying the club believed up to 10 players who had a steak lunch at Brisbane's Everton Park Hotel did not breach Project Apollo protocols.

The NRL and Queensland Police Service have each launched an investigation into the matter, with police authorities confirming its own enquiries "found no breach of the Chief Health Officer's public health directions".

The NRL's investigation remains ongoing, but acting CEO Andrew Abdo confirmed the Broncos contingent would not be placed in a COVID-19 hold on the advice of biosecurity experts.

Pangai fined $30,000, stood down indefinitely

Pangai's punishment is the largest issued by the NRL for breaking Project Apollo protocols and comes as Brisbane's board weighs up whether to terminate his contract - worth just under $2 million over three years - over a string of recent incidents.

The Tongan international will be given five business days to respond to the NRL sanctions after he visited a Brisbane barbershop with bikie connections over the weekend.

Wantaway winger helps Warriors down Broncos

The giant winger, who is one of the Warriors players that want to return to New Zealand to be with their familties, has scored two tries and run for almost 300 metres to help his side to a come-from-behind 26-16 win over the Brisbane Broncos in Gosford.

Brisbane, in search of their first win since the NRL restart, had led 10-nil after half an hour, with Maumalo dotting down on the stroke of halftime to keep the Warriors in touch.

NRL legend Billy Slater hammers Tevita Pangai Jnr

Having struggled to match their opponents in the middle of the field since the season restarted from the COVID-19 shut down, the return of Pangai Jnr from suspension was expected to boost the Broncos' go-forward.

The Tongan international enforcer had been sidelined for four weeks after he was charged for dangerous contact for a high shot on Justin O'Neill in the Broncos' round one win over the Cowboys.
