Alex Glenn re-signs with Broncos

The Kiwi international will be a Bronco until at least the end of the 2019 season after inking a new deal this week.

After making his NRL debut in 2009, the 28-year-old father of two young children has now played over 200 games for the Broncos and 12 Tests for the Kiwis.

Broncos' chief executive Paul White send the retention of Glenn was something the Broncos had been working hard on.

Broncos back depth despite loss

Without six frontline players due to commitments with Queensland, while also missing hooker Andrew McCullough through concussion, the Broncos fell to a heavy 28-10 defeat at the hands of the Warriors on Saturday night.

But despite his makeshift side failing to get the job done in Auckland, coach Wayne Bennett said Brisbane have the depth to ensure they should improve on last year's effort, which saw them pick up just two NRL Telstra Premiership victories through the Origin period.

Bennett still wants more from Broncos

Brisbane dismantled the Penrith Panthers on Thursday night, skipping out to a 28-0 lead before winning 32-18 in an impressive performance at Suncorp Stadium.

It was the Broncos' sixth win of the season and fourth in a row, helping the men from Red Hill recover from the sloppy 2-3 record they had accumulated after five weeks of the competition.

‌Now with a week off from club duty, Bennett will turn his focus to his English coaching responsibilities with England's national rugby league side to face Samoa on May 6.

Mead re-signs with Broncos

Not only will Mead start the match against the Rabbitohs tonight after Jordan Kahu was withdrawn with a groin issue, he has some big news off the field.

Mead last night re-signed with the Broncos for another season, meaning he will be at the club until at least the end of 2018.

Mead joined the Broncos from the Gold Coast Titans at the end of last year.

On the day of the big game against the Rabbitohs, Mead said he is excited about staying with Broncos for another season.

Mead said he is excited about the challenge of making the team.

Marshall to make debut for Redcliffe

Troubled by an achilles tendinitis injury that he picked up at the Downer NRL Auckland Nines, Marshall trained strongly at Brisbane's captain's run on Thursday morning but has not been able to force his way into Brisbane's best 17.

Alex Glenn has one more appointment with the doctor before he is cleared from the concussion he suffered against the Sharks last week but Broncos officials are very confident that he will be passed fit to meet the Cowboys.

Wallace treasures chance to start Round 1

Wallace has been named to partner Ryan James up front for Gold Coast and will face a stern test first up at Cbus Super Stadium against a Roosters front row boasting the aggression of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and bone-rattling tackles of Dylan Napa.

Entering his sixth season in the NRL this year Wallace had never even played in a Round 1 fixture until last year for Brisbane against Parramatta where he came off the bench and played 28 minutes in the season opener.

Broncos finish fast to down Knights

A low-scoring first half saw both sides get over for an unconverted try, with Danny Levi darting through from dummy-half for Newcastle before a Darius Boyd cut-out pass gifted Jordan Kahu an easy one in the corner.

Bennett hunting Sims and James to bolster pack

Sims is unsettled at Newcastle and is keen to settle at a more established and successful club, meaning there is high possibility of him walking out on the final year of his $400,000 a year contract.

Meanwhile James has reportedly been offered a big money contract by the inter-state rivals, although he is set to reject the deal and finalise a new three-year commitment to the Titans.

Bennett is desperate for a forward leader and might have to settle for only Sims, with James likely to stay put at the Gold Coast.

Broncos pair allegedly involved in heated altercation at Brisbane bar

According to the Courier-Mail, the former team-mates had been at a function at Doomben Racecourse before moving on to the ‘Sixes and Sevens’ bar in Fortitude Valley.

Things reportedly became heated when Hodges, who now has a commercial role with the Broncos after retiring at the end of the 2015 season, lost patience with Oates and threatened to ‘put one on his chin’.

“Corey was pretty drunk and making a bit of a racket but Hodgo was ready to go,” a source told the Courier-Mail.
