Wantaway winger helps Warriors down Broncos

The giant winger, who is one of the Warriors players that want to return to New Zealand to be with their familties, has scored two tries and run for almost 300 metres to help his side to a come-from-behind 26-16 win over the Brisbane Broncos in Gosford.

Brisbane, in search of their first win since the NRL restart, had led 10-nil after half an hour, with Maumalo dotting down on the stroke of halftime to keep the Warriors in touch.

NRL legend Billy Slater hammers Tevita Pangai Jnr

Having struggled to match their opponents in the middle of the field since the season restarted from the COVID-19 shut down, the return of Pangai Jnr from suspension was expected to boost the Broncos' go-forward.

The Tongan international enforcer had been sidelined for four weeks after he was charged for dangerous contact for a high shot on Justin O'Neill in the Broncos' round one win over the Cowboys.

Eels bust Broncos as footy returns with a bang

The showdown kicked off 67 days after the enforced COVID-19 shutdown of the NRL as one of the most anticipated rugby league matches in the 112-year history of the code.

It lived up to the billing, and then some.

On an evening many scoffed would never occur the Eels reaffirmed that they are a serious premiership contender after dominating a brave Broncos in the middle and out wide.

Broncos release James Roberts

Fox Sports reported that the Broncos announced on Wednesday they had agreed to cut Roberts’ contract short after he requested a release on compassionate grounds.

Roberts has signed a contract with the Rabbitohs which runs to the end of 2021.

“I’m really excited to be coming back to Souths and playing under Wayne again,” Roberts said.

“There are some great players at this club and I can’t wait to get into training and getting back on the field.

Storm crush Broncos on way to Grand Final

After dominating the competition all year, the Storm last night advanced to the club's eighth season decider and second in a row.

With Cronk set to retire or move to a Sydney-based club after season 2017, it ensures the Storm will have plenty of motivation as they get set to face the Sydney Roosters or North Queensland on Sunday week at ANZ Stadium.

After being wasteful in the first 40 minutes, the minor premiers went into the breakup 8-0 but turned it on the second stanza, running in three tries including a Billy Slater double.

Beaten Broncos feel wrath of Wayne

After a weekend to reflect on their 24-22 qualifying final loss to the Roosters last Friday the Broncos were put through an arduous one-hour field session designed to rectify the frailties that have been exposed early in recent games.

Both Darius Boyd and Tevita Pangai Jnr failed to train with the main squad but are a chance to line up against Penrith with Kodi Nikorima spending the majority of the session in the fullback position.

Kahu's sacrifice for Broncos' finals hopes

Still smarting after missing the sideline conversion of the first of Corey Oates's two tries that ultimately proved to be the difference in the 24-22 loss to the Roosters last Friday night, Kahu won't be able to practise his goal-kicking until Thursday's captain's run but is insistent he perform the role for his team.

The 26-year-old told NRL.com last month that the groin injury that may require surgery at the end of the season has been troubling him since Round 7 and he feared that it had been impacting his performances on the wing.

Fastest ever try all part of Parra's plan

Broncos fans could have been forgiven for stumbling down the stadium steps on the way to their seat such was their shock at what had transpired, Blair's offload to no one allowing Auva'a to sweep in, touch down and smash the record for the fastest try ever scored in NRL history.

Ben's new role puts Brisbane in the Hunt

Hunt, who was meant to start the game at hooker, was switched to the bench an hour before kick-off, with Bennett wanting to field the strongest defensive line-up possible during the first 20 minutes of the match.

It meant Sam Thaiday played majority of the first quarter of the clash in the hooking position, shoring up Brisbane's defence as the Titans put together set after set on the Broncos' line.

Broncos hammer hapless Bulldogs

Two tries in the final four minutes of the first half gave Brisbane a 16-6 advantage but the key period was between the 53rd and 68th minutes when the Bulldogs' only touch of the football was Josh Reynolds spilling an Anthony Milford kick from point-blank range as the Broncos piled on 18 points to take complete control of the contest.
