Nauru hosts Table Tennis competition to celebrate 54th Independence Day anniversary

The tournament commemorates the nation’s 54th Independence Day anniversary.

Nauru Media News reports competition for Under 12, Under 16 and open men’s and women’s will be held at the sports complex.

The tournament is sponsored by the Government with Nauru Table Tennis organising and running the event.

     

Nauru declares 2–day public holiday for public service

A Government gazette issued today, states the public holiday is to be observed from 7am to 5pm by officers and employees of the Public Service.

Nauru gained independence on 31 January 1968 and was led by founding president Hammer DeRoburt.

Nauru Media News – NTV earlier reported that the Department of Sports organized a number of sporting competitions to commemorate the coinciding events of independence and the anniversary of returnees from Chuuk.

Nauru celebrates Independence Day

More than 20 government departments and organisations participated in the march.

President Baron Waqa led an official party that reviewed the Independence Day parade in front of parliament house.

Congratulatory messages have been pouring in from leaders and organisations.
