Pacific designers to feature at Fiji Fashion Week

The Pacific designers are from Cook Islands, Guam, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tahiti and Tonga.

This month is Fiji Fashion Weeks’ tenth Anniversary and the industry is in celebratory mode.

The Style Challenge competition began on May 1 where Suva’s shop retailers are being challenged to come up with the Best Dressed Window.

Fiji Fashion Week to feature designers from 10 Pacific Islands

The Pacific Islands’ leading fashion event will be held this year between May 22 and 27 in Suva with a series of associated events held in and around Fiji’s capital city. The main week’s programme will open with the first ever Pacific Island Resort Show that will feature the ten Pacific Island designers.

“Whilst still in its early stages, we have secured a great line-up of emerging and established designers coming from Samoa, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia and more,” Fiji Fashion Week Managing Director Ellen Whippy-Knight said.

Endless opportunities for Samoan Fashion post Pacific Runway

This week emerging fashion enthusiast Dane Fabricius arrived back in Samoa from taking part in the Pacific Runway Fashion show in Sydney Australia, an event he deemed a success.

“It was an amazing experience for me, Ive seen the changes and the contrast between our island’s fashion from those of the other Pacific island nations and their taste,” he says.

“The biggest thing Ive seen there is that, most share almost the same design patterns, or tatau, but what makes a dress stand out is the touch of the designer that makes a flare out of a dress,” says Fabricius.
