Falcao, 30, endured two miserable seasons in the Premier League, first with United and then with Chelsea as he netted just five goals in all competitions.

The Colombia striker returned to Monaco for this season and has already struck twice in three games.

Vasilyev was unimpressed by how United and Chelsea treated Falcao, who he believes will return to his best.

"Both clubs in England failed to relaunch him," he told the Daily Mail.

The Manchester United attacker said reaching the landmark will be a "huge honour", but stressed he is still focused on trying to win with England after confirming he will retire from international football following the 2018 World Cup.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes Paul Pogba is the world's best midfielder, but does not expect the France international to produce fireworks every week. 

While Pogba became the world's most expensive transfer with his move from Juventus to United, he is not expected to score as many goals as the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. 

The 23-year-old midfielder returns after four years away, having left United for Juventus for £1.5m in 2012.

Pogba, who signed a five-year deal, added: "This is the right club for me to achieve everything I hope to in the game."

Jose Mourinho said Pogba would be "the heart of the club" for the next decade.

United will pay the Italian champions 105m euros for Pogba, plus performance-related bonuses and other costs.

It surpasses Wales forward Gareth Bale's £85m move to Real Madrid in 2013 as the biggest transfer deal in history.

French newspaper L'Equipe says some details of Pogba's deal, the most-expensive signing in history, ahead of Gareth Bale's 100 million euros ($NZ 158 million), are still to be defined.

And it looks like Beckham has been bitten by the acting bug.

Beckham told The Times: "I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting and failed."

He added: "I know that it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn't want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice."
