United, Chelsea failed Falcao

Falcao, 30, endured two miserable seasons in the Premier League, first with United and then with Chelsea as he netted just five goals in all competitions.

The Colombia striker returned to Monaco for this season and has already struck twice in three games.

Vasilyev was unimpressed by how United and Chelsea treated Falcao, who he believes will return to his best.

"Both clubs in England failed to relaunch him," he told the Daily Mail.

Rashford has 'brilliant' future – Mourinho

Rashford came on at half-time of the Manchester derby as United fell to a 2-1 defeat to City on Saturday.

The 18-year-old is yet to start under Mourinho, but the Portuguese tactician is ready for that to change in the Europa League.

"For me the next big game is against Feyenoord and the next game he is going to play. That is the only thing I can say," Mourinho told UK newspapers.

World's best are shunning Premier League – Scholes

In an extract from his new book published in the Guardian, Scholes picked out Manchester City trio Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva as being the only Premier League players he would place among the game's elite, and said that La Liga had more quality on offer.

Scholes, who won the Premier League 11 times with Manchester United and now works as a pundit, said: "You hear about people saying English football's the best football there is around. I think Spain's by far the best league. Germany has better teams.

Emotional Germany midfielder plays last international match

Schweinsteiger, 32, was left in tears at a presentation before Germany's 2-0 friendly win over Finland.

The Manchester United midfielder made his Germany debut in June 2004 and ends his international career with 121 caps and 24 goals.

"It means so much that you're here today. It has been an honour to play for you," he told the crowd.

"I think you all saw how it affected me. I had just wanted to enjoy every moment, but I hadn't expected it to be so lovely."

Rooney proud to break England outfield caps record

If Rooney plays against Slovakia in Sunday's World Cup qualifier he will make his 116th England appearance, moving ahead of David Beckham and trailing only goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

The Manchester United attacker said reaching the landmark will be a "huge honour", but stressed he is still focused on trying to win with England after confirming he will retire from international football following the 2018 World Cup.

"It'll be a proud moment and every time I've played with England I'm proud to do so and it's a huge honour," Rooney said.

Mourinho: Pogba is world's best midfielder

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes Paul Pogba is the world's best midfielder, but does not expect the France international to produce fireworks every week.

While Pogba became the world's most expensive transfer with his move from Juventus to United, he is not expected to score as many goals as the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Paul Pogba: France midfielder rejoins Manchester United for world record £89m

The 23-year-old midfielder returns after four years away, having left United for Juventus for £1.5m in 2012.

Pogba, who signed a five-year deal, added: "This is the right club for me to achieve everything I hope to in the game."

Jose Mourinho said Pogba would be "the heart of the club" for the next decade.

United will pay the Italian champions 105m euros for Pogba, plus performance-related bonuses and other costs.

It surpasses Wales forward Gareth Bale's £85m move to Real Madrid in 2013 as the biggest transfer deal in history.

Man U buy Pogba for record fee

French newspaper L'Equipe says some details of Pogba's deal, the most-expensive signing in history, ahead of Gareth Bale's 100 million euros ($NZ 158 million), are still to be defined.

After the first meeting, in which Juventus rejected an offer of 101 million euros ($NZ 160 million) from the English Premier League club, the Turin team made a proposal to sell the 23-year-old for 120 million euros ($NZ 190 million) and Manchester United accepted.

United grab fifth in EPL

The game was hastily rearranged after the match at the weekend was abandoned due to a bomb scare and the first half was very low key in front of a sparse Old Trafford crowd.

The one moment of quality produced a fine goal, however, just before the interval when United's French forward Anthony Martial injected pace down the left and Rashford stepped over his cross to leave Rooney with a simple finish.

David Beckham is bitten by the acting bug

Guy Ritchie has taken the former Manchester United and England captain under his wing and has already cast him in two of his films.

And it looks like Beckham has been bitten by the acting bug.

Beckham told The Times: "I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting and failed."

He added: "I know that it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn't want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice."
