Gunners fans dreaming of Premier League title after outstanding victory

And Arsenal supporters of a different vintage were singing again after an outstanding, mature display in a 2-0 win at Spurs gave them a formidable eight-point advantage at the Premier League summit.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are still very a long way from champions and this win came at a different arena than the old White Hart Lane, but if they do not believe they can win the title again after this latest victory then they never will.

Gunners regain fourth in EPL

The Gunners had been knocked out of the last Champions League qualification spot by north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur earlier on Monday (NZ time) after they beat Leicester City.

Son Heung-min struck twice after Harry Kane had opened the scoring as Spurs bagged a 3-1 at home.

But Arsenal responded to the pressure with a third consecutive victory to give them the edge in what has become a two-horse race for fourth place.

Arsenal have 63 points from 34 games with Tottenham on 61 points, also with four games left to play.

Man City back on top of EPL

After struggling to break down Graham Potter's men in a frustrating opening period, Kevin de Bruyne provided the inspiration as City restored their one-point advantage with a 3-0 win.

De Bruyne created the opener for Riyad Mahrez and provided the faint final pass for Bernardo Silva to wrap up the scoring eight minutes from time.

In between, Phil Foden needed the aid of a deflection to beat the Brighton goalkeeper after Mahrez spotted the England man on his own just outside the box at a corner.

Liverpool crush Manchester United go top of EPL

Liverpool moved to 76 points from 32 games with title rivals Manchester City on 74 points from one game fewer, with Pep Guardiola's side hosting Brighton and Hove Albion at the Etihad tomorrow.

It was a miserable night for United who are now without a win in their last eight league clashes with Liverpool and who have failed to score in five of their last six trips to Anfield.

United dropped below Arsenal on goal difference, falling to sixth place on 54 points, having played two games more than the Gunners.

City on top of EPL

The visitors were gifted the opening goal in the fifth minute when Cancelo acrobatically crossed for Ruben Dias to head into an empty net after a mix-up between Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and defender Ciaran Clarke.

Cancelo added a second in the 27th minute, cutting in from the right wing and capping off a solo run with a stunning strike to silence the home crowd.

Newcastle were denied what looked to be a clear penalty on the half-hour mark when City keeper Ederson clattered into Ryan Fraser, but neither referee Martin Atkinson nor the VAR decided to intervene.

Spurs back in touch with the top four

Spurs have jumped above Liverpool and are now just a point behind West Ham United, who earlier blew a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Arsenal.

Arsenal are now ninth, a point above Villa.

Meanwhile, Leicester City are through the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1982 after beating Manchester United 3-1.

Leicester will face Southampton for a place in the final at Wembley.

Chelsea have drawn Premier League leaders Manchester City in the other semi-final after the Blues beat Sheffield United 2-0.

The home side carved out the best chances but United, who had a decent first-half penalty appeal turned down, defended solidly throughout to earn a point.

Chelsea remain in fifth spot with 44 points from 26 games, one point behind West Ham United, while Manchester United are second with 50 points from 26 games, 12 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.

Liverpool ended a run of four successive Premier League defeats and scored their 7,000th top-flight goal during a 2-nil victory at Sheffield United that moves them within two points of a Champions League place.

Liverpool remain unbeaten in EPL

The victory was inspired in large part by attacking right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold who created three goals and scored one himself.

Popping up in the inside-left position, Alexander-Arnold floated a pinpoint cross to the backpost for Brazilian Firmino to head Liverpool into the lead in the 31st minute.

Liverpool were utterly dominant but had to wait until the 71st minute to extend their lead when Alexander-Arnold's corner was handled by Caglar Soyuncu and substitute James Milner slotted home the penalty with his first touch of the ball.

Liverpool and United victorious

With Chelsea and table-topping Manchester City playing later in the week, Liverpool registered their second win in 48 hours after the Estonian popped up with his first league goal.

On the blue half of Merseyside, Manchester United climbed back up to second in the table after second-half goals by Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard earned a 2-0 victory at Everton -- their first win in five games in all competitions.

EPL top four fight to go down to last day

City need a point from their final match to be absolutely sure of Champions League football after they beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 while fifth-placed Arsenal stayed in the hunt by beating relegated Sunderland 2-0.

Gabriel de Jesus, Kevin de Bruyne and Yaya Toure scored City's goals as they moved two points above Liverpool in third.

With a superior goal difference of five to that of Arsenal, who are three points behind, it would take a big turnaround to deny City.
