Liverpool and United victorious

With Chelsea and table-topping Manchester City playing later in the week, Liverpool registered their second win in 48 hours after the Estonian popped up with his first league goal.

On the blue half of Merseyside, Manchester United climbed back up to second in the table after second-half goals by Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard earned a 2-0 victory at Everton -- their first win in five games in all competitions.

Chelsea trying to catch United, not City – Conte

City's lead at the top was cut to five points by United on Tuesday, with Chelsea a further six points back ahead of hosting Swansea City.

Pep Guardiola's side have been flying atop the table with 12 wins from 13 matches, scoring 42 goals and conceding just eight.

Conte said Chelsea simply needed to focus on overtaking United, not high-flying City.

"We have to look at ourselves and not the others. Now our target must be to see the team that is before us. In this case, Manchester United," the Italian told UK newspapers.

Rojo makes Manchester United return for reserves

The Argentina international last featured in a competitive United game on April 20, when the Red Devils beat Anderlecht 2-1 after extra time to book their place in the Europa League semi-finals – coincidentally the same match in which Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered a similar setback.

But after being given the all-clear for some game time, Rojo featured for his club's second-string side in the 2-1 Premier League International Cup win over Athletic Bilbao.

The 27-year-old centre-back played the first 45 minutes and came through unscathed.

Man United 4 Burton 1

The attacking duo, deployed together for the first time in the starting XI this season, each found the net at Old Trafford as United booked their spot in the fourth round.

Jose Mourinho picked a strong side, featuring the mouth-watering front three of Martial, Rashford and Jesse Lingard.

And their quality was in evidence immediately, the hosts moving ahead in the fourth minute through Rashford's cool finish.

That opened the floodgates as United entered the break 3-0 ahead, Rashford adding a second before Lingard got in on the act.

Manchester United re-sign Ibrahimovic on one-year deal

The 35-year-old, who is recovering from knee ligament damage, scored 28 goals in 46 appearances for the club last season but was released when his previous deal expired at the end of June.

However, the striker has agreed to return to Old Trafford and manager Jose Mourinho expects him to be a hugely important player when he returns to full fitness, which is expected to be in January.

"We are delighted Zlatan is on the road to recovery and we are equally delighted to have his ambition and experience back with us," Mourinho told United's official website.

Pogba determined to win Premier League with Man Utd

The France international, who left Old Trafford for Juventus in 2012, was brought back to United for a then world-record fee by Jose Mourinho last year.

United and Pogba won three trophies - the Community Shield, League Cup and Europa League - last season, but they struggled to a sixth-place finish.

However, after more spending in this off-season, Pogba is looking to lead United in a title charge against champions Chelsea and rivals Manchester City.

Ronaldo 'relaxed' and ready to face old club United

Ronaldo has been the subject of transfer speculation, while he appeared in front of a Spanish court to deny allegations he avoided paying tax on image rights payments.

With Madrid set to face Ronaldo's old club Manchester United in the Super Cup in Skopje on Tuesday, Zidane believes the Portugal international is fully fit and focused on his football.

"There is a lot of noise and a lot of things happening, but he is relaxed," Zidane told reporters. "What impresses me the most is that physically he is as fit as the day of the final.

Chinese company denies approach to buy Man United stake

It has been reported by the Sunday Times that a mysterious Chinese buyer has expressed an interest in purchasing a holding in the English club, who are owned by the Glazer family.

According to the report, some of United's independent shareholders have been contacted.

However, Ping An Insurance Group distanced itself from the rumours on Monday.

"The information is false. Ping An have not been involved in any discussion on purchasing a holding in Manchester United," Ping An spokesman Sheng Ruisheng said via the 21st Century Business Herald.

De Gea stay good for me – Romero

De Gea is undoubtedly the first-choice shot-stopper at United, having made 35 Premier League starts last season.

But the Spain international is consistently linked with Madrid, the club he almost joined in August 2015.

While a De Gea exit would likely give Romero more opportunities, the Argentina goalkeeper said he wanted his team-mate to stay.

"It's better for the club that there is this competition there between me and David," he told UK newspapers.

"The truth is that there exists a great friendship between us, we work hard in order help each other out.

Mourinho wants a midfielder and winger at Man Utd

Though Mourinho would not divulge the names of his targets, Inter's Ivan Perisic and Nemanja Matic of Chelsea are thought to be at the top of his wishlist.

United have signed Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku so far in the transfer window, while Mourinho has previously suggested he may be forced to settle for just one more addition.

By comparison, Manchester City have spent an estimated £200million on six players, while Chelsea (four) and Liverpool (three) have recruited more fresh talent than United so far, but Mourinho remains calm about the situation.
