Nauru celebrates Eigigu Day

The event was declared by the Acting President, Richard-Hyde Menke.

Nauru will also be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Nauru Cooperative Society.

A statement issued by the government said “From 7.00am to 5.00pm as a public holiday to be observed by the officers and employees of the Public Service.”

     

Nauru commemorates IWD with Public Holiday

The order has been published in the Government Gazette dated 6 March 2023.

International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

The theme for the 2023 campaign is Embrace Equity.

Nauru commemorates Sir Hammer DeRoburt Day with public holiday

The September 27 public holiday declared by President Lionel Aingimea has been published in the Government Gazette.

DeRoburt was the first elected President of Nauru following its independence in 1968.

He was president from 1968 to 1989, except for a two-year span (1976–78) when he was voted out of office and for a brief period in late 1986 when he was temporarily ousted by government opponents.

In 1982 he was awarded an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II.

Nauru public holiday to commemorate “RONPHOS Handover”

The declaration by President Aingimea who is also the Minister for Public Service has been published in the Government gazette.

RONPHOS Handover Day was established in 2017 to remember the handing over of formerly British-owned phosphate mines in Nauru to local control.

RONPHOS maintains and operates the phosphate industry on the island.

Church Service held to celebrate IWD in Nauru

Nauru Media News – NTV reports prayers were offered by individuals representing organisations like Nauru National Women's Council, Health services, Youth, People with Disability, Nauru Police and the White Ribbon Male Champion.

After the service, Rev Roger Mwareow escorted President Lionel Aingimea and guests to Centennial Hall for lunch.

Guests were treated to a scrumptious spread of local and overseas delicacies.

The group Smart Kids performed with a short animated video on Covid-19 to inform and educate people about the pandemic.

 

Nauru declares public holiday to celebrate International Women's Day

President Lionel Aingimea declared the public holiday which has been published in the Government Gazette.

Various activities have been organized beginning with the 10th anniversary celebration of the women’s safe house or Ewak in Erateko.

Ewak in Erateko or the safe house accommodates and shelters women and young girls including those fleeing being persecuted in their homes.

Nauru Media News - NTV reports there will be a half-day programme starting with a walk from Aiwo Tennis Court to Centennial Hall on Saturday morning.

Nauru declares 2–day public holiday for public service

A Government gazette issued today, states the public holiday is to be observed from 7am to 5pm by officers and employees of the Public Service.

Nauru gained independence on 31 January 1968 and was led by founding president Hammer DeRoburt.

Nauru Media News – NTV earlier reported that the Department of Sports organized a number of sporting competitions to commemorate the coinciding events of independence and the anniversary of returnees from Chuuk.
