Fiji Catholic Church leader to visit Nauru

The Archbishop will be arriving in Nauru tomorrow.

Catholic Parish Council Chairman Vaiuli Amoe informed Nauru Media that the archbishop will conduct the Sacrament of Confirmation to members of the catholic youth group as well as the ordination of Russell Aiyunge as a Deacon at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nauru.

Accompanying the Archbishop during his visit is Administrator, Father Iona Teemai, a representative from the Dioceses for Tarawa which of Nauru is a part of.

Indian Minister’s visit aims to strengthen diplomatic relations with Nauru

The visit aims to strengthen the diplomatic relations between the governments Nauru and India with the Minister set to tour key sights on the island.

A statement said Minister Singh and his delegation first visited the Anetan community seawall yesterday, which was constructed and co-funded by Nauru and India in 2017 then went to inspect the progress of the Nauru Port Project in Aiwo.

Lastly, the Minister and his delegation went to the Nauru Parliament where they were welcomed by the Speaker of Parliament, Marcus Stephen and were invited to lunch.

Danish MP says Nauru visit cancelled

RNZ reports, in a Facebook post, Johanne Schmidt-Nielsen said on Monday the government had moved to exclude three members of the delegation.

The 48-hour visit of the Danish Parliament's Immigration Committee had been planned for some time, she said.

She and one of the other excluded politicians, Jacob Mark, had criticised Australia's asylum seeker processing in the media, Ms Schmidt Neilsen said.

But she said it was anybody's guess why the other politician, Naser Khader, was excluded, without having criticised Nauru or Australia.

University of the South Pacific staff visit Nauru

The USP delegation comprised of the Vice-President (Regional Campuses and Properties and Facilities) Dr Giulio Paunga, Director of Pacific and Further Education (Pacific TAFE), Mr Hasmukh Lal, and Associate Dean (teaching and learning) of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment (FSTE), Dr Bibhya Sharma.

The visit was a request made by the Minister for Education, Charmaine Scotty, the Government of Nauru.
