Reports of cyclone damage in Fiji

Reporters from Fijivillage spoke to the Turaga Ni Koro, Filipe Colati, on Ono-i-Lau, who said they experienced strong and devastating winds late last night.

He said the winds were stronger than Cyclone Ula and that five houses have been destroyed in Dakuni village.

Mr Colati said there was also extreme damage to vegetation.

Fiji's Russian weapons of no concern to NZ PM Key

A shipment of 20 containers arrived in Suva last month containing weapons worth US$8.8 million, and yesterday, defence minister Timoci Natuva said his government was negotiating for a second.

Both Suva and Moscow insist the weapons, which include small arms, ammunition, and vehicles, are for Fiji's United Nations peacekeepers who operate in volatile areas like the Golan Heights and Sinai.

The Speaker of Parliament, Jiko Luveni, then followed that by suspending the party's three MPs from parliament, apparently on advice from the Solicitor General's office.

Fiji's opposition NFP suspended

FBC News said the suspension was for 30 days with immediate effect.

The NFP provided its 2013-2014 Annual Audited Accounts to the Registrar, which was published in the Fiji Sun on November 13th.

FBC News said the accounts were not audited by an accountant certified by the Fiji Institute of Accountants.

Fiji seeks Google help in plot probe

Last month, police said they had contacted foreign police forces to help in the investigation, but gave no details.

The case stems from an incident in November when an internet cafe owner, Rajneel Singh, claimed to have been beaten by police after he told them about an email found in his cafe about an alleged plot to kill all government MPs.

The Fiji Volunteer Service started in 2012 and has seen Fiji provide various assistance to Pacific Island countries in building capacity in human resources.

Present at the handover was the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Semi Koroilavesau.

 The scheme also further strengthens Fiji’s engagement with the islands in the region.

“Fiji has sufficient and proven capacity in areas of education, public administration, disaster management, peacekeeping, social protection and environment, “Koroilavesau said.
