Two of her singles, Physical and Don't Start Now, were among the 10 most popular songs on the UK airwaves.

The most-played track overall was The Weeknd's Blinding Lights.

The figures were compiled by music licensing company PPL, which monitors the music played on TV and radio and in pubs and clubs.

It said Sheeran was the year's second most-played artist, followed by Ariana Grande and Sam Smith.

And Little Mix called out sexism in the music industry after becoming the first all-female outfit to win best British group.

The other big winners on the night were J Hus, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift.

The test event at London's O2 Arena took place with a 4,000-strong audience and no social distancing or face masks.

Rappers Headie One and AJ Tracey used their performance to call out the demonisation of drill music and criticise the government, while highlighting the work done by footballer and free school meals campaigner Marcus Rashford.

On Wednesday, artists including Lana Del Rey and Dua Lipa had their biographies replaced by the attacker.

The hacker called himself Daniel, and replaced the celebrities' photos with one of himself.

The action will be an embarrassment to the platform's security efforts. It is the most popular app of its kind.

The attacker also asked people to add him on Snapchat, and added the words "Trump 2020".

"Best of all shout out to my queen Taylor Swift," he added.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said babies called Dua doubled in 2019 compared with 2017, when the singer had her first UK number one.

Kylo's popularity has risen since the new Star Wars films started in 2015.

But Oliver and Olivia are still number one in England and Wales, with more than 9,000 babies named in 2019.

The ONS said 126 babies were called Dua in 2019, compared with 63 in 2017, suggesting that like her first UK number one single the singer has set New Rules for naming inspiration.

Ed Sheeran, the Rolling Stones and Coldplay also signed the letter to the culture secretary warning of the impact of Covid-19 on venues and musicians.

It says the music industry faces "mass insolvencies", with gigs and festivals unlikely to return until 2021.

The organisers said there had already been "hundreds of redundancies".

One year later, the music industry seems to have taken note, with female artists dominating the shortlist for 2019's ceremony.

Dua is up for four awards, including best single for One Kiss; tying with pop star Anne-Marie as the year's most-nominated artist.

And for only the second time in Brit Awards history, more women than men are up for the night's biggest prize, album of the year.
