Colorado shooting victims and suspect identified by police

The attack at a King Soopers market in Boulder ended when police arrested the lone suspect after exchanging gunfire.

Police have not confirmed a motive. The suspect faces 10 counts of murder.

President Joe Biden has hailed a police officer and father of seven who was killed, and has called for Congress to enact stricter gun control measures.

The grocery store is located in a busy shopping plaza in Boulder, a north-central Colorado city about 30 miles (50km) away from the state capital of Denver.

"One of my sons, I took it away, and it was a pretty dramatic, very violent outburst," said Dr. Timothy J. Farnum, a father of five who is an anesthesiologist by training. "He was very addicted to this little machine. It kind of scared me, and that's really how it started."

Farnum said he was disturbed by his 10- and 11-year-olds' loss of interest in activities such as playing outside, as well as research on the potentially harmful impacts of excessive technology use.

Colorado mother rescues son from mountain lion's mouth

The mother heard screams and raced outside the house near Aspen, where she found the animal on top of her son, the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office said.

The boy suffered face, head and neck injuries and was said to be in fair condition at a hospital in Denver.

Officials said two lions were killed.

The unidentified woman said she grabbed one of the animal's paws and stuck her right hand in its mouth to pry it open and free her son's head, Pitkin County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Buglione said.

Prosecutors launch last push for theater shooter's execution

It comes after jurors rejected arguments Monday that the former neuroscience student's mental illness should remove the death penalty as an option. They deliberated for less than three hours.

"The case for death is only going to get stronger from this point forward," said Denver attorney and former prosecutor Craig Silverman. "This jury is not going to want to disappoint the families of these victims. ... I'd be very surprised if the verdict was anything other than death."
