Car bomb kills eight people near US Embassy in Kabul

Three U.S. troops were among the wounded, a US military official said.

The blast hit at 7:55 a.m. (local time) in Kabul police district 9, near the embassy and Supreme Court, according to interior ministry spokesman Najib Danish.

The convoy targeted was mine-resistant and can withstand ambushes, coalition officials tweeted.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement posted by its media arm Amaq, the terror group said one of its members targeted "a column of American forces."

Civilians may have also been wounded in the blast, it said.

A vehicle rigged with a bomb exploded next to the bus -- which was transporting off-duty soldiers, according to the country's Anadolu state news agency. The blast happened near Erciyes University in the central province of Kayseri, according to a tweet from Anadolu.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım are being briefed on the situation, according to the news agency.

A video showed a decimated bus with smoke rising out of the vehicle.

Al-Shabaab claims responsibility for deadly car bomb near Somali prison

A vehicle packed with explosives detonated near a prison run by the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency in Mogadishu, Col. Hamza Ali, a senior police officer, told CNN. The car had been parked at the Blue Sky restaurant near Godka Jili'ow prison, a heavily protected facility where Al-Shabaab suspects are questioned.

Five people were injured in the attack, Ali said.

A statement posted on a pro-Al-Shabaab website said the car bomb had targeted a Somali intelligence officer at the restaurant.

State media: Car bomb in Syrian port city kills 10

It was one of the biggest bombings, and the highest single death toll, in Latakia since the Syrian conflict erupted in 2011.

TV footage from the scene showed thick black smoke rising from a car, damage to nearby vehicles and a puddle of blood. Syrian state TV said the explosion went off in Hamam Square on the edge of Latakia.

Iraqi capital sees fresh round of deadly bombings

The most deadly was caused by a car bomb in the mainly Shia Sadr City area.

The same district was hit by a massive truck bomb two days ago that killed more than 60 people and was claimed by Islamic State militants.

Sadr City has been the target of several bomb attacks this year claimed by IS who consider Shia to be heretics.

Saturday's attack targeted a vehicle market in the Habibiya area of Sadr City which had been targeted multiple times in the past, AP news agency said.

Fifteen people were killed and a further 35 injured, officials said.

Day of violence in Istanbul leaves at least 3 dead

In the southeast of the country a roadside bomb killed four police, and Kurdish rebels attacked a helicopter, killing a conscript. There has been a recent sharp spike in violence between Turkey's security forces and rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK.

One of the consulate attackers was later captured injured in a nearby building and hospitalized.
