Fijian government receives $AUD100,000 from Nauru

The Fijian Government has received AUD AUD$100,000 (FD$153,000) from the Government of Nauru to help those affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs acting Permanent Secretary Esala Nayasi received the people of Nauru's cash grant from Nauru's Secretary for Foreign Affairs Michael Aroi who presented it on behalf of acting President David Adeang in Suva today.

Mr Aroi said the people of Nauru were saddened by the loss of lives and the devastation caused by Cyclone Winston.

“The people of Nauru are hopeful that the donation will help the people of Fiji recover from the tragic ordeal,” Mr Aroi said.

Mr Nayasi said that the Fijian government and all Fijians are humbled with the timely donation given by Nauru.

He thanked the Government of Nauru and said that any donation received now would greatly assist in the immediate relief assistance to the Fijians affected by the cyclone.
