Nauru Fire Officers attend to live bush fire while training in Tasmania

The officers were in Tasmania for a two week course and had the opportunity to be part of the team who attended the bush fire.

Firemen Garrison Grundler, Quaski Itaia, Newman Rykers and their team manager who is also the Acting Deputy Fire officer, Barassi Botelanga said they are thrilled to have had the chance to learn how to handle very difficult situations where they did both theory and practical work.

The training has broadened their knowledge about how to handle various situations regarding fire and rescue services.

Nauru’s Abner surprised at his selection for recording of Digicel Christmas song

Abner features in a collaboration of Pacific artists who have recorded a new upbeat version of Digicel’s hit song “We are Family.”

Abner who is Nauru’s leading artist, said he grew up around music. His father was a member of a local band while his mother was in the church choir.

“My interest in music grew when my mum asked me to join the church choir,” he said.

Abner has a preference for country western music. So it was quite an eye opener being in the same recording studio with well-known Pacific artists who play reggae, pop songs, and other genre of music.

Babies delivered safely for refugee and asylum seeker mums on Nauru

The newborns, two girls delivered naturally and two boys delivered   by caesarean ranged in a healthy weight from 3.1 kilogrammes to 3.5 kilogrammes.

All mums are reported to be doing well.

A Government statement said two more expectant mums are due to give birth this month.
