North Korea urges Australia to distance itself from US

The note denounces the US president's warning that America would destroy North Korea if forced to defend itself.

Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull said the letter had been sent to other nations.

He said it demonstrated that diplomatic pressure on North Korea was working, despite the document being "basically a rant" consistent with earlier rhetoric.

The one-page letter was sent via North Korea's embassy in Indonesia and attributed to the Foreign Affairs Committee of Pyongyang's Supreme People's Assembly.

Australia acknowledged in port upgrade

The GCF approved a $35m funding proposal for the Nauru port at its final board meeting of the year in early October in Egypt, one of eleven climate finance initiatives the board approved in different parts of the world.

The Fund’s primary function is to help developing countries such as Nauru respond to climate change.

“One of the keys to our success was the assistance of Australia, who even asked its high commissioner to the UK Alexander Downer to lobby diligently on Nauru’s behalf,” said Minister for Finance David Adeang.

Fiji is co-hosting the UN conference on climate change in Germany and is holding a series of preliminary meetings this week in Nadi.

Most Pacific countries have long backed limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees celsius abover pre-industrial levels, while New Zealand and Australia have committed to two-degrees in line with most other developed nations.

Yoga: A beginner's guide

In fact, centuries before Instagram and activewear, "doing yoga" didn't involve the body at all.

At its core, yoga is a practice for tapping into your mind and poses are just one way of doing that.

Yoga's philosophy is based on eight limbs; only one of them, asana, is about the poses. The rest: yama, niyama, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi, are best described as moral and ethical codes to live by.

Rebel Wilson wins $AU4.5m in defamation payout

Ms Wilson successfully argued that a series of magazine articles had wrongly portrayed her as a serial liar.

In June a jury unanimously sided with Ms Wilson, who had claimed the articles stifled her career in Hollywood. She has said she will give the money away.

Bauer Media has always denied the articles were defamatory. A lawyer said it would consider the judgement.

Ms Wilson sought $A7m during the trial but had offered to settle for A$200,000 before it went to court.

Australians urged to eat kangaroo meat

Government figures show there were almost 45 million kangaroos in 2016, which is almost double the human population of Australia.

In 2010 the number was only 27 million, with the sharp rise blamed on rainy conditions producing wealth of food.

But many fear millions could starve if a dry summer produces a drought.

Australia has strict regulations about the humane killing of the animals. Each state has rigid quotas on commercial shooting licences and species culling, based on sustainability levels.

People will have until 7 November to cast their vote by mail and results of the voluntary poll are expected on 15 November.

On Sunday ahead of the ballots being mailed out, thousands of Australians rallied in support of the campaign and dressed in rainbow colours.

The No campaign said it remained confident it had strong support.
