Nauru welcomes home U-15 AFL Oceania champions

Hundreds of people gathered at Nauru International Airport yesterday to welcome back the U15 side that won the AFL Oceania championship in Fiji.

The Nauru Stars flew home after a gruelling week of competition in Suva.

The team was crowned the 2015 Australian Football League U15 Oceania Cup winners after beating Fiji by 17 points.

The final score was 7-6-48 to 5-1-31.

The crowd erupted in cheers as the young boys and their chaperones walked through the terminal doors at the airport.

The President of AFL Nauru Mathew Batsiua said he was delighted that the team had brought home the silverware.

“It’s a tribute to the hard work, commitment and dedication that these young boys have shown over the past few months.  Everyone here today (yesterday) including all the boy’s family and friends are so proud of their achievement.”

Batsiua thanked Digicel for filming the three games including the final.

You will be able to watch those games on Digicel’s new Loop service and Nauru TV.

Details of the broadcast will be released soon.
