Houses collapse following 6.6 magnitude earthquake in Solomons

Principal at Bekabeka Adventist High School Encie Dionie confirmed to SIBC News that the houses are the principal’s residence which she is residing in and the school canteen. She said a majority of staff houses have also partially collapsed. 

A school tank also fell to the ground and broke. 

“The earthquake is swift but strong but if it shook for a little longer, definitely all the houses would crumble to the ground.

Mrs Dionie said currently all the houses are leaning on one side and dangerous for staff to live in because their posts are all rotten.   

Western Governor sentenced to 10 years

Justice Martin Ipang delivered the sentence just before 3pm today.

The three were convicted on July 26 for misappropriating over K7m. They were also found guilty for conspiring to defraud the state of K7,060,000.

For misappropriating K7,060,000, Justice Ipang sentenced them to 25 years in prison. However, due to restitution of K373,971.68 being paid, the court suspended 15 years, leaving them to serve a remaining term of 10 years.

For their part in conspiring to defraud the state of K7,060,000, they were sentenced to 4 years.

12 killed in plane crash in PNG

The plane of the small Sunbird Aviation fleet had been travelling to Kiunga Oksapmin in neighbouring West Sepik province.

All 11 passengers and Pilot are deceased after their plane crashed while on approach to Kiunga Airport at around 4PM today (Wednesday 13th April 2016).
