"It is a tragedy for all those affected," Mayor Kari Anne Sand told VG newspaper. "I have no words."

Suspect arrested over Bloody Ridge plaque theft

The plaque was laid last week during commemorations for the 75th anniversary of the battle of Guadalcanal.

Police said the plaque was recovered in the Lunga river area and they said the suspect was arrested near the New Zealand Camp east of Honiara.

The police have thanked the community including members of the suspect's immediate family for assisting in the arrest.
