 The Panthers ran in five tries to two to in what was a comprehensive win led by a man-of-the-match effort from skipper Matt Moylan.

The young, inexperienced Panthers were down 6-4 at the half-time break, but dominated the second half with the sort of freewheeling football that propelled them to a sixth-place at the end of the season, to run away with victory thanks to four second half tries.

Penrith centre Tyrone Peachey said they had a clear plan heading into the match and stuck to it.

After an uninspiring first half at Hunter Stadium on Sunday, the Panthers and the Knights were locked at 6-6 at the break.

But Penrith dominated the second stanza, leaving the Knights to extend their club record losing streak to 15 games.

It also puts Newcastle into the top 10 on the all-time longest losing streak list.

The Knights enjoyed 60 per cent of the possession in the first half, but despite repeated opportunities they could not crack the Panthers' line.

RNZ reports the move will appease many pundits and fans who've been critical of coach Andrew McFadden for picking the 21-year-old on the bench in their two recent losses.

Assistant coach Andrew Webster says Lolohea is primed for a big performance.

"Tui can play anywhere in the backline at a very high level. He's had plenty of experience at fullback in his short time in the NRL and I think he's going to be great for us, you saw what he did when he came onto the field for us late last week (in the golden point loss to Manly)."

Hardaker joins the NRL as one of the most decorated players in the UK having been named Man of Steel in 2015 after leading Leeds to success in the Challenge Cup as well as the First Utility Super League Grand Final. 

Before he had even signed with the Panthers, current English players in the NRL described the 24-year-old as a great talent who would be well suited to the Australian style of play. 

The 24-year-old, who will begin training with the Panthers next week, played 154 games for Leeds after making his debut for the Super League club in 2011.

In 2015 Hardaker was named Man of Steel after helping Leeds win the Challenge Cup, League Leaders Shield and First Utility Super League Grand Final.

"This is truly exciting for the Panthers to have a current English international joining the club for the remainder of the 2016 season," Panthers Executive General Manager Phil Gould AM said.

The Titans were never once in the lead until Don's try which secured his side a second-consecutive win. 

It was a lesson of persistence for the Gold Coast who were forced to equal the ledger four times throughout the game.

All looked lost for them too when Penrith's Leilani Latu scored his first ever NRL try in the 71st minute. However an ugly error from Panthers skipper Matt Moylan under the high ball provided the Titans excellent territory for an Ashley Taylor try four minutes later.
