Leonardo DiCaprio wins first Oscar

After missing out five times, the 41-year-old has won an Oscar, for best actor in The Revenant.

DiCaprio received a standing ovation at the 88th Academy Awards on Monday when the win was announced.

The actor did not say any words of "relief" or "it's been a long time coming", as fans might have expected.

Viewers took to social media as soon as Rock's monologue began, with some criticising the comedian's approach, while others gave praise.

Rock was quick to address the "White Oscars" elephant-in-the-room issue which has surrounded the awards since the nominees were announced earlier this year, which revealed all nominees in the major categories were white.
