Round the island relay

There were three teams, rough riders, connect and jokers. Each team consisted of 24 runners 12 women and 12 men.

The race started and ended at the western bay going clockwise all the way around the whole island.

The team that got in 1st was the rough riders, in red uniform with a time of 1hr 10mins and 6secs. 2nd place was team connect with just 40secs after and 3rd was the jokers.

It was a great achievement from all the runners. 

     

Nauru hails its refugee policy

Nauru houses hundreds of Australia's asylum seekers and refugees on the island.

According to RNZI, in an address to the Bali Process on People Trafficking in Bali, Mr Adeang said Nauru had developed a robust processing system for those seeking asylum and a vibrant refugee settlement programme.

Education Dept to conduct professional development for teachers and trainees

NZ remains open to Nauru partnership

In September 2015, Mr McCully suspended the funding New Zealand provides to Nauru each year for its justice system because of ongoing concerns about civil rights abuses.

RNZI reports at the time, Mr McCully said several incidents had caused him concern, including the removal of senior members of the judiciary.

Double celebrations for couple who chose to wed on IWD

As Nauru commemorated the day with the rest of the world, Sirrah Batsiua of Boe District took celebrations up another level.

Sirrah and Obrien Itaia of Aiwo District tied the knot at Orro Church at a ceremony officiated by Reverend Roger Mwareow and witnessed by the couple’s families and friends. The date also commemorated the groom’s birthday, so it was a double celebration.

NGOs discuss social accountability at meeting in Nauru

Supported by the United Nations Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption (UN-PRAC) Project, the four- day Social Accountability Workshop is spearheaded by the Nauru Island Association of Non-Government Organisations (NIANGO) with other local NGOs including the Nauru Persons with Disability Organisation (NPDO), Emedena Emwi (Right Road), women’s CSO, youth organisations and Nauru’s Community Liaison Officers.

Fijian government receives $AUD100,000 from Nauru

Ministry of Foreign Affairs acting Permanent Secretary Esala Nayasi received the people of Nauru's cash grant from Nauru's Secretary for Foreign Affairs Michael Aroi who presented it on behalf of acting President David Adeang in Suva today.

Mr Aroi said the people of Nauru were saddened by the loss of lives and the devastation caused by Cyclone Winston.

“The people of Nauru are hopeful that the donation will help the people of Fiji recover from the tragic ordeal,” Mr Aroi said.
