The very first 3-D Model of Nauru, launched

The three-dimensional model will help Nauru identify, establish and manage their natural resources including conservation sites. It was constructed during training on Participatory Three-Dimensional Modelling also known as P3DM which was successfully completed this month for the Republic of Nauru.

Nauru becomes 189th member of IMF, World Bank

David Adeang, Minister of Finance of Nauru, signed the Articles of Agreement of the IMF at a ceremony held at the State Department in Washington, IMF officials witnessed the signing ceremony. 

Nauru applied for membership in the Washington-based IMF and World Bank in April 2014, after joining the United Nations in 1996 as the world's smallest independent republic.

The World Bank, which helps developing countries to spur growth and fight poverty, welcomed Nauru as its smallest member by land mass, at 21 square kilometers (eight square miles).

Nauru sets up a new trust fund

According to RNZI, in a statement, the government said that by the middle of the year it expects to have US$24 million based on an Asian Development Bank grant, and annual contributions by Australia and Taiwan.

The Intergenerational Trust Fund will be chaired by the finance minister, David Adeang.

AFL holds clinic for boys and girls in Nauru

The children were divided into two teams.

The younger ones were led by Drew and the older ones by Scott Cain and they played a friendly match.

Gender equality is an important issue with football and they encouraged girls and mothers to participate.

The fitness programme was started with assistance from volunteer local instructor, Mr Bowe Bingham.

Nauru takes leadership role in negotiation of new oceans agreement

The first round of negotiations commenced on Monday and will run until April 8 at UN Headquarters in New York.

The negotiations are known as the ‘Biodiversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction” or BBNJ and will aim to address a gap in the protection for marine biological diversity.

ADB, Australia grants to help Nauru strengthen fiscal sustainability

ADB’s is extending a US$2 million policy-based grant from its Asian Development Fund, while the Government of Australia is providing US$1.8 million for the Nauru Fiscal Sustainability Reform Programme.

“The Nauru Fiscal Sustainability Reform Programme will help the Government of Nauru to establish the Nauru Intergenerational Trust Fund to save currently high public revenue for the future,” said Andrea Iffland, Regional Director of ADB’s Pacific Liaison and Coordination Office in Australia. ”The programme will help the Government of Nauru deliver improved social services.” 

NEATS scheme already a big winner for schoolkids
