"Life tests you" said Linkin Park singer

He referred to a friend who had apparently tried to take his own life.

"It was really hard and really confusing and really sad," the 38-year-old revealed to music reporter Steve Holden.

"Sometimes it just feels like life is testing you."

There have beenĀ tributes from fans and stars, including Rihanna, Katy Perry and Stormzy, since his death was confirmed on Thursday.

Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington found dead

He was 41.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner, Brian Elias, said authorities were investigating Bennington's death as an apparent suicide at Palos Verdes Estates, a small coastal city near Los Angeles, but no additional details were available.

Band co-founder and producer Mike Shinoda said on Twitter he was "shocked and heartbroken".

"Chester Bennington was an artist of extraordinary talent and charisma, and a human being with a huge heart and a caring soul," Warner Brothers chief executive and chairman Cameron Stang said in a statement.

Linkin Park and Stormzy did the story together

The grime artist features on their track Good Goodbye, along with Pusha T.

It might seem like an unlikely hook up but the band say they were fans of his way before Gang Signs and Prayer was released.

"We heard his stuff, we loved it and we reached out. He said yes," says Mike Shinoda.

Stormzy features on the band's seventh studio album, One More Light, which is being released in May.

Unsurprisingly, the only trouble the band had was pinning him down to record his verse.
