Jordan's tribute, which includes drawings, has proven a hit on social media as Springbok great Van der Westhuizen's death last week from motor neurone disease continues to make headlines.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld, who now plays in South Africa, posted it on Twitter, clearly touched by the 13-year-old's love for his father and the famous football club.

Tributes began to flow as news spread of the death of the man who played a pivotal role in South Africa's Rugby World Cup win in 1995.

Van der Westhuizen played 89 Tests for the Springboks between 1993 and 2003. He scored 38 Test tries for his country and led South Africa for four years as captain, including a third-place finish at the 1999 Rugby World Cup.

However it was his performance at the previous World Cup, held in South Africa, that cemented his reputation in world rugby.

Van der Westhuizen was admitted to hospital yesterday in a critical but stable condition.

The 45-year-old, who was part of the 1995 Springbok team that beat the All Blacks 15-12 in the world cup final, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2011.

A post on his foundation's Facebook page said van der Westhuizen is recovering well after being placed in the intensive care unit.

van der Westhuizen played 89 times for South Africa from 1993-2003.
