Jay Z leads with eight nominations, including his first ever appearance in the album of the year list for 4:44, which comes 21 years after his debut.

Sheeran did receive several nominations in the pop categories, however.

Shape of You is up for best pop solo performance, while ÷ is shortlisted for best pop album.

Lady Gaga is also relegated to the pop categories for her recent album, Joanne, while Katy Perry fails to receive any nominations at all.

While on her way back from killing a lot of people on Sunday night's season premiere of "Game of Thrones," Arya Stark took some time to make some friends in the forest, namely a group of soldiers, singer Ed Sheeran among them.

Playing an unnamed solider, Sheeran had a chance to show off his pipes in the role, singing a tune that was pulled from the book source material, and offered Arya some cooked rabbit. He didn't have much dialogue beyond that.

Still, the appearance of a recognizable face like Sheeran was enough to irritate fans of the show's escapist world.

During a Facebook Live chat, the Oscar winner referred to the hockey player as the singer's "fiancée".

"[Ed] was on tour here and he was getting a bit burned out so he came up and stayed at the farm for a couple of days to get some sleep and then we became conversational mates," he said.

"He has subsequently gone back to the farm with his fiancée for more time."

Ed Sheeran has admitted recently that he wants to settle down.

The 26-year-old said he wanted to be inked with the name of his latest single but was pranked by Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan.

The pair filmed a music video for the track in Ireland last week.

"When we were filming it, I meant to get a tattoo of her handwriting saying Galway Girl," he told fans at his show in Glasgow on Sunday.

"It actually says Galway Grill. G-r-i-l-l."

Ed Sheeran said he was proud of who did it and said it was the kind of thing he'd do.

"Like, full on, she really took the [rip] out of me with this one."

"I played him a few songs after the album was finished," Harry told the Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

"He didn't say that he didn't like any but he did like one song that isn't on the album."

Ignoring the advice of one of the most successful singer-songwriters might not be a good idea, but Harry says he still decided to leave it off the album.

"He [Ed] is really good - he's one of the most talented dudes I know," he said.

Wonderland - the second album since Take That became a trio - had to settle for second place and the highest new entry, with 113,000 sales.

James Blunt has scored his fifth top 10 album, as The Afterlove debuts at six.

Sheeran's Shape of You isn't losing its form in the singles chart, staying at number one for the 12th straight week.

He is also at number two with Galway Girl and number five with Castle on the Hill - both from Divide, the Official Charts Company said.

Speaking at the SXSW film festival in Texas, David Benioff and Dan Weiss said they'd been trying to book him for a while.

Ed also confirmed the news as reports started to appear online by tweeting "guess the cat's out the bag".

It's not clear what role he'll have in the show.

The panel at SXSW also featured stars Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.

It was suggested that the Ed Sheeran booking was made as a surprise for Maisie because she's a big fan of the singer.

Ed's not the first musician to appear in Game of Thrones.

In its first week it outsold the rest of the top 500 combined and became the fastest-selling album ever by a male artist.

Ed is also number one on the singles chart. And number two. And number three, four, five, six,..
