Speaking at the official opening, His Excellency, Baron Waqa thanked partners Digicel Nauru, Central Merridian and Sterling Security for their contributions towards the development of the centre.

“It is a great honor to be opening a gym as such’ said His Excellency, Baron Waqa. “ Powerlifting is a very hard sport to train for, with this new Gym we are more confident to go to International level and present our talents to the World.”

His Excellency, the President of Nauru, the Honorable Baron Waqa opened the LTE launch by sharing the story of Digicel’s journey in Nauru and encouraged the crowd to look forward to a bigger, better and brighter future with Digicel.

Pastor Jesse Agagio said the opening prayer and this followed by speech by Digicel Nauru CEO Mr Francis Thomsen.

Instructor Corasita McKay led the crowd in a session of Zumba.

A large number of children turned up and enjoyed the bouncy castle and good music.

Digicel’s brand ambassador Jezza Uepa attempted to do a 445kg squat as the crowd cheered him on.

Rosy Akaruwo and a team from Digicel Nauru provided information to customers about data.

More than 50 customers signed up to use FREE 4G LTE service on their handsets.

Committed to delivering the ultimate customer experience, Digicel have open up a containerised café providing the ultimate coffee experience in Nauru through a complete menu of espresso-based beverage such as lattes, cappuccinos, cocoas and tea.

The café also serves a variety of muffins, banana bread, sausage rolls and meat pies, all imported from Australia and of high quality.

New CEO at Digicel Nauru, Francis Thomsen said: “DIGICEL Nauru hosted the fundraiser and at the same time encouraged health by organizing the ‘WALK FOR LIFE’ for HAITI. 

The turn-out from people on the island was fantastic and they showed the love and support for Haiti by donating a minimum of one dollar before setting out for a walk around the airstrip. 

“All donations will go towards Haiti redevelopment, “said Thomsen.

All those who took part in the walk were invited to the NEW Container Café at the Civic Center for a well-deserved cup of hot coffee.  

In his new role, Francis will have responsibility for driving positive change for consumers and businesses within the island nation and ensuring that Digicel continues to reduce barriers and increase the quality of services for their customers.

Francis Thomsen has been with the Digicel family for 7 years, and joins Digicel Nauru from Samoa where he was Chief Operating Officer for the past 3 years.

Back in 2009, we started with an initial 2G service.  Today, we have moved to WiMAX internet services and of course 3G which was launch in 2014.

This September 2016 will see some major areas of growth include the Digicel new 3G+ unwired internet service, data offers with 20% extra, improved channels on its Digicel Play TV service and the Loop service and Digicel Mobile Advertising services.
