Nauru near completing COVID-19 vaccination

The President Lionel Aingimea says 7,457 people received the first shot and 6,779 have got the second.

He says the remaining 678 need to ensure they have the shot before the vaccine expires in 10 days.

The president says there is a high degree of confidence that nearly all adults on Nauru are now protected from the coronavirus.

The vaccination process took four weeks.

Those under 18, and so not eligible for the Astra Zeneca vaccine, make up about 40 percent of the island's population.

Nauru President urges over 500 people to take second COVID-19 vaccine shot

In a statement issued last night, President Aingimea said at the end of the second week of the second dose campaign (Friday 18 June), 574 people still had not taken their second shot.

 

So far only 1,814 people have taken the second shot, however, there should have been 2,388 people fully vaccinated by the end of last week.

 

He is urging those individuals to present to any one of the vaccination centres as soon as possible.

 

“Vaccination is very important to protect you and Nauru.”

 

Hundreds of Pacific people receive COVID-19 vaccine in Wellington

Part of a series of ‘festival days’ – where the Pacific community is vaccinated together in a welcoming environment – today’s event was the first in the region to be held in a place of worship.

Capital & Coast DHB worked with Tū Ora Compass Health PHO and the church community on the event last week.

“It was wonderful to see so many of our older Pacific members there today, and we look forward to more events like this supporting better health outcomes for our vulnerable communities,” said Tū Ora Pacific Director of Health Henrietta Hunkin-Tagaloa.

Nauru ready to roll out second Dose of COVID-19 vaccine

The first dose was administered in April and May.

Nauru Media News – NTV reports in order to be fully protected from COVID-19, everyone must take the second jab of the vaccine.

The health authority will be contacting those who have already taken the first jab to receive their second dose.

Expatriates who have already taken the first dose are encouraged to receive their second jab.

Those who have forgotten their second dose return date are advised to see public health officers at the public health Centre for their return date.

Delay child vaccinations and share jabs with Covax, says WHO

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Friday urged countries to supply more vaccines to the global fair-access scheme Covax.

The international distribution of Covid vaccines remains vastly uneven.

Since the first vaccines were approved in December, wealthier countries have bought up most of the supply.

Many are racing to vaccinate as much of their population as possible.

Nauru exceeds adult population target for COVID-19 first shot campaign

A Government statement said based on Nauru's Bureau of Statistics population estimates* of 6,812 adults living in Nauru at the end of 2020, Nauru has vaccinated 108 per cent of the adult population aged 18 years and over.

With a comparatively young population, this represents 63 per cent of the estimated total population on Nauru having received the COVID-19 vaccine.

The National Coronavirus Taskforce is extremely pleased with this world record result and thanks everyone on Nauru for playing their part to keep Nauru COVID free and safe.

Dracula's castle in Romania offers tourists COVID vaccine

Medics with fang stickers on their scrubs are offering Pfizer shots to everyone who visits the 14th-century Bran Castle in central Romania.

It is part of a government drive to encourage more Romanians to get jabbed.

Some believe the castle inspired the vampire's lair in Bram Stoker's iconic novel Dracula.

Romania has recorded just over a million infections since the pandemic began, and nearly 29,000 deaths.

Last day to receive first dose of the vaccine

Nauru Media News – NTV reports the adult population on Nauru 18 years and over including foreigners have been continually urged through GIO messages, Media and Digicel platforms to visit the vaccine Centre’s to get their first shot by the end of today.

On Thursday 6 May 603 people visited the vaccine centers to get their first dose bringing the total number of people administered with the vaccine to 6,854.

Nauru public urged to get COVID vaccination

Friday 7 May is the final day to receive the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

“After this date it will not be possible for you to get your first dose. You will not be able to take this first dose at the time the second dose is being rolled out. You need the first dose in order to take the second, “the ministry said in a statement.

Nauru President, Speaker, CJ take first vaccine shots

President Lionel Aingimea, Speaker of Parliament Marcus Stephen and Chief Justice Taniela Fatiaki, and their spouses are among the first to receive their first dose of the COVAX AstraZeneca vaccine on launch day, 9 April.

With Nauru maintaining regular cargo and passenger flights to Brisbane, Australia, the likelihood of COVID-19 entering Nauru remains a possibility, therefore the Government urges all eligible Nauruans and foreigners, 18 years and over, to get vaccinated.
