Covid-19 positive case

Traveller tests positive in Pago Pago

American Samoa's Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua says the traveller was asymptomatic.

Motusa told KHJ News the all other travellers have yielded negative results.

This is the 11th positive covid test result detected in quarantine since American Samoa resumed commercial flights from Honolulu three months ago.

All of the confirmed cases have been asymptomatic.

The December 6 flight was Hawaiian Airlines' last commercial flight for the year.

Man with historical COVID-case arrested in Cook Islands

Currently on bail, he has been charged with making a false declaration on a travel document.

The case is considered historical, presenting a low risk to the public.

Health Secretary Bob Williams says the man arrived in Auckland from Egypt on 5 May, where he tested positive for the virus in managed isolation.

He tested negative before being released from quarantine after which he flew to the Cooks, where he tested positive on 5 June.

All his close contacts have tested negative.

Community case identified in NSW, Sydney venues on alert

Authorities believe the man, who has not been vaccinated, has been infectious since Friday.

He had not been overseas or worked in Sydney's hotel quarantine system so authorities were keeping an open mind while working to find the source of the infection, NSW chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant said.

She said authorities hoped genome sequencing would identify the source of the infection, which could be from interstate.

Chant said the man's cycle threshold (VT) values were low, which meant he had a higher viral load and was potentially more infectious.

Victorian hotel worker tests positive to coronavirus, NSW issues alert

The department said the man worked at the Holiday Inn hotel at Melbourne Airport, and it was contacting the hotel along with the case's close contacts.

The worker returned a negative test result on 4 February and returned to work on 7 February, where they developed symptoms and tested positive.

"We are contacting Holiday Inn Airport workers and others who are considered primary close contacts," the department said.

"They are required to immediately isolate, get tested and remain isolated for 14 days."

FSM President defends call to allow in ship with Covid-19 case

David Panuelo last week announced the sailor on the government ship, MV Chief Mailo, had tested positive after it returned from the Philippines.

He said the ship and its crew are isolated in the Pohnpei lagoon under heavy watch.

In a national address, Mr Panuelo said the crew was tested before they left the Philippines, and he allowed them to return because they feared for their safety.
