England and Wales had a 40-minute hit-out that featured 12 scrums and 16 line-outs under the scrutiny of top international referee Nigel Owens in Bristol.

The idea was suggested by England coach Eddie Jones to his Welsh counterpart Warren Gatland ahead of their teams' encounters with Argentina and Australia respectively this weekend.

Sio admitted he'd be intrigued by the prospect of a similar session with the All Blacks but couldn't envisage Wallabies coach Michael Cheika ever picking up the phone to Steve Hansen or any other international coach.

Steve Hansen's men begin the defence of their title against their fellow-Pool B heavyweights at the International Stadium on September 21 in the 2019 tournament. 

Hosts Japan get the World Cup started a day earlier at Tokyo Stadium versus a European qualifier in Pool A.

England face Tonga at Sapporo Dome on September 22, a day after 2015 runners-up the Wallabies take on Fiji at the same venue.

Kaino spoke publicly for the first time since his prolonged period away from the All Blacks dealing with personal issues in London on Wednesday in the lead up to Saturday's November tour opener against the Barbarians at Twickenham.

The veteran 81-test loose forward has not played for the All Blacks since the Lions series ended back in July, and he appeared to have been supplanted in the No 6 pecking order by Liam Squire and Vaea Fifita during the Rugby Championship.

The Wellington-born scrum-half, who has earned 39 Test caps and scored eight international tries since making his debut in 2014, said it was an easy decision to remain in his hometown.

"The All Blacks will always be the goal and to be able to chase that dream for another four years here in New Zealand is a challenge I'm looking forward to," said Perenara.

Capped 56 times for New Zealand and the scorer of 46 tries at test level, Savea has been named in the Barbarians squad to face the All Blacks in London on November 5 (NZ time).

The Wellington and Hurricanes player has also been selected for the Barbarians match the following week against Tonga.

Six other New Zealand players have also so far been chosen in the squad to square off against the All Blacks at Twickenham.

Duffie has been rewarded for a strong Super Rugby season with the Blues, named as one of four uncapped players along with Crusaders centre Jack Goodhue plus prop Tim Perry and hooker Asafo Aumua, who have both excelled in the national provincial championship.

Duffie started off in union before being scouted by the Melbourne Storm, where he made his NRL debut in 2010.

After six years in the NRL, Duffie signed to play rugby for the Blues last year.

The outside back said making the All Blacks team seemed a bit out of reach.

The inclusion of young hooker Asafo Aumua and winger Matt Duffie are the notable features of the All Blacks squad for their end of year northern tour.

In an extended 37-man squad named on Monday morning, former NRL player Duffie and Wellington sensation Aumua are joined as new All Blacks by Tim Perry and Jack Goodhue.

The All Blacks' selection panel, which comprises Ian Foster, Grant Fox and Hansen, will on Monday confirm their 37-man squad to tour the northern hemisphere and although a number of players' reputations were dented at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night there will be no immediate repercussions.

"I probably could have told you the touring squad before tonight, and it hasn't changed," Hansen said as he ruminated on the end of the All Blacks' seven-match winning streak against the Aussies on the soggy Suncorp pitch.
