Dangerous goods training extended

Dangerous goods are articles or substances that pose hazards to health, safety, property and environment.

Air Niugini Non-Technical Training Instructor, Martin Tugano, who conducted the training said there was positive feedback with overwhelming interests from participants.

A total of 33 participants from the Vanuatu Terminal Services (VTS), Civil Aviation Authority Vanuatu (CAAV) and Aviation Vanuatu Ltd (AVL) Aviation Securities attended the training in Port Vila from November 27 to December 2, 2019.

ANG defers Shanghai flights

In a statement, the airline said: “Air Niugini is committed to ensuring the highest quality, on time service to all passengers and will continuously review its business to improve efficiencies.

“Our partners and the airline have invested heavily in setting up operations to achieve our goal of opening the Chinese market to Papua New Guinea. It is our desire to complete this venture at the earliest possible opportunity. 

Eight injured in Air Niugini crash

Flight PX73 was making a scheduled stop at Chuuk International Airport on the way from Pohnpei to Port Moresby on Friday, September 28.

The Boeing 737-800 was on final approach in very poor weather according to the airline.

At 10:10am local time the plane crashed short of the runway into the lagoon in heavy rain and reduced visability the airline said in a statement.

The plane later sank in the lagoon after passengers and crew were evacuated to Chuuk's main island of Weno.

ICCC proposes to allow airline code-share services

The code-share services will be provided under flights operated by Air Niugini.

The code-share arrangement with Air Vanuatu will be on the Port Moresby-Port Vila route via Honiara. The code-share arrangement with Solomon Airlines will be on the Port Moresby-Honiara route.

Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Paulus Ain, said whilst both code-share agreements raise competition concerns, they are likely to continue to bring more benefits to the players in the aviation industry and contribute to the growth of economic activities associated with the aviation industry.

PX appeals stay on pilots’ termination

The granting of leave by the National Court on Oct 7 saw the court stay the termination of the respective pilots affected.

The appeal Air Niugini filed came before Justice Stephen Kassman on Tuesday this week, however, it was adjourned to next week Monday. It is expected to return before Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia.

Air Niugini filed the appeal on grounds the judicial review in the National Court is an abuse of process because Air Niugini is subject to Company Act and its decisions cannot be reviewed through a judicial review proceeding.

Air Niugini bans Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on its flights

The ban takes effect immediately.

“This action is in view of the recently issued emergency alerts by major aviation regulatory authorities stating that the safety issue regarding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 still persists,” Air Niugini said in a statement.

Samsung recently recalled and replaced all its Galaxy Note 7 following an incident in an aircraft overseas, however, the issue seems to have reoccurred.

PX flights to Honiara suspended

This follows the withdrawal of all services operated and supplied by Solomon Airlines effective June 7, 2016 until further notice.

Air Niugini’s flight PX082 from Port Moresby to Honiara and Port Vila on Tuesday has been rerouted to operate from Port Moresby to Port Vila direct.

Flights between Port Moresby and Nadi, Fiji will be nonstop and not via Honiara until further notice.

Air Niugini is waiving rebooking and cancellation fees for disrupted Honiara passengers.

Air Niugini welcomed to Vanuatu

It's the first commercial flight. General manager Dominic Kaumu says the flight is a way to help the Melanesian Spearhead Group countries in the Pacific.

He said the flight will also help the people of Vanuatu and Solomon Island during the upcoming Pacific Games in Port Moresby.

 Onboard the flight include Air Niugini executive officers, National Airport Corporation staff, journalists and other passengers.
