Richmond Tigers triumph over Adelaide Crows

Martin has been judged best afield in the 48-point victory, and can add the award to his premiership medallion and Brownlow Medal for his efforts across the home- and-away season.

The Crows, bidding for their first championship since back-to-back titles in 1997-98, were the dominant side of the regular season and entered the match as the bookmakers' favourites.

But after starting brightly with four goals in the first quarter, they promptly crumbled under pressure, their forwards completely shut down by their opponents' superb defence.

PNG wins practice match against Nauru Chiefs

The two teams met at Beenleigh Buffalo's AFC in Queensland.

Much to the Chiefs credit they readjusted and kept PNG goal-less in the last quarter to end the game on a high.

Final scores PNG 49 defeated Chiefs 17.

It was a good hit out for both clubs as they head towards the start of the International Cup this weekend on August 6.

PNG will take on Ireland in a replay of IC14 Grand Final and the Chiefs will take on NZ.

The Nauru Chiefs head to Melbourne today.

Tricks of the trade to keep bloodied AFL footballers in play

There's no signs of concussion and the phone is ringing.

The coach wants a status report. He wants his star player back on the field as soon as possible.

Strathfieldsaye wins first-up practice match against Nauru All-Stars

A largely young Storm side led their islander rivals throughout the four 17-minute quarters contest, prevailing 11.10 (76) to 6.2 (38) at Strathfieldsaye Recreation Reserve' second oval.

But the scoreboard was irrelevant to Storm coach Darryl Wilson, who was just glad to have his side be part of a remarkable innovation for Australian rules football.

"It was a bit of fun. Bendigo Bank approached us and asked if we wanted to play the boys," he said.

Improved Saints could still miss finals: Richardson

In an interview with AFL.com.au, Richardson said a key focus this summer has been bridging the gap between St Kilda's best and worst.

The best was a rattling 8-4 finish to the season that included wins over eventual premiers the Western Bulldogs and third-placed Geelong.

But the Saints also endured some horrendous beatings on the road including 103 points to West Coast and 88 points to Adelaide. They also lost by 40 points to Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.

Star midfielder won't play in round one, confirms Lyon

Fremantle will face Geelong on Sunday, March 26 at Domain Stadium in its season opener. The Dockers are coming off a dismal season which saw them finish 16th last year after winning the minor premiership in 2015.

Answering questions on a Facebook Q&A for AFL.com.au, Lyon said Bennell would hopefully play early in the year.

"He won't be available for round one but his rehab is progressing well, particularly post-Germany. We expect to see him, if all goes to plan, in the early rounds," the coach said.

Lions roar away from wooden spoon

In a clash between last and second last on the ladder, the 17th-placed Lions were cleaner by foot and more efficient in front of goal as they ended a club record 12-game losing streak, 20.8 (128) to 12.19 (91).

Led by under-fire skipper Tom Rockliff (38 disposals, one goal), the Lions' senior players ran rampant.

Brad Scott fined $30,000 by AFL for accusing umpires of bias

In the immediate aftermath of North Melbourne's nine-point loss to Hawthorn, Scott claimed he had been told an on-field umpire made the remark after a crucial non-decision went against the Kangaroos, but an investigation on Saturday morning proved the claims to be false.

It's all quiet when Giants lose: Cameron

Since the Giants' pulled off the best win of their short history over Hawthorn on Saturday, Collingwood president Eddie McGuire and several unnamed club recruiters have voiced their concerns over the amount of talent flowing through the doors at GWS.
