Nyuon's teammate Mabior Chol was also in trouble during the game, charged and fined for being the instigator of a melee.

No SSP rookie for Eagles with train-on players set to finish up

Subiaco forward Nick Martin recently finished his training period with the Eagles after straining a quad, while former Brisbane player Cedric Cox and Swan Districts defender Will Collins will continue for a final week.

The deadline to sign players during the Supplementary Selection Period is March 9, with the Mid-Season Rookie Draft in early June the next window for AFL hopefuls.

It is understood the Eagles are more likely to keep Venables available for selection, rather than make him 'inactive', which would have opened a list spot to be used during the SSP.

Rising AFL star 'distressed' to spend Christmas behind bars for 'quarantine breach'

The Richmond player was granted an exemption to enter Western Australia from Melbourne via a connecting flight through Adelaide on December 10 to attend his grandfather's funeral.

The brief stopover in Adelaide, where Stack said he did not leave the airport, triggered a requirement the rising star complete 14 days self-quarantine.

Police allege he instead left his approved self-isolation residence in Northam, the country town where he grew up, and stayed at an address in the southern Perth suburb of Belmont.

The 22-year-old was reportedly targeted by Greater Western Sydney during trade discussions for Jeremy Cameron, but he had no intentions of departing the Cattery.

His new deal was made official on Monday and will take him through until the end of the 2022 season.

Parfitt established himself in Geelong's strong midfield with his 107 tackles, ranked the second most across the AFL in 2020.

"Brandan is an integral part of our future, so we're pleased to have secured him until the end of 2022," General Manager of Football Simon Lloyd said.

Dockers condemn racist attack on young forward

Frederick, who has South Sudanese heritage, re-posted the racist message on his Instagram account.

Dockers chief executive Simon Garlick said the club would not tolerate the continuing racial vilification of AFL players.

"This abhorrent comment is just one example of the racist abuse many in Australia experience in their everyday lives. The Fremantle Football Club and our broader Fremantle Family stand by Michael for calling out this type of abuse," Garlick said.

AFL limits full-contact training to small groups as Essendon awaits decision on quarantined players

The decision was made and relayed to clubs on Monday in order to mitigate risk after Essendon's Conor McKenna returned a positive COVID-19 result over the weekend.

Clubs will be permitted to continue contact training in groups of up to nine, and larger groups can still conduct ball movement drills providing there is no contact.

In another decision by the league, players and approved club staff must not visit other houses, or have visitors in their house, within 48 hours of their weekly pre-match day test.

Hammond, 78, is recognised as one of the giants of South Australian football across a six-decade contribution to the game. He passed away in Adelaide surrounded by close family after a courageous recent battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Hogan a chance for R2 return as Dockers regain stars

Hogan had been absent from the club since January, but returned to non-contact training with his Dockers teammates following the COVID-19 shutdown period on Monday and could put his name forward for selection next month.

It follows a maiden season with Fremantle where Hogan featured only 12 times last year due to a foot injury, having made a high-profile move from Melbourne at the conclusion of the 2018 campaign.

"He's a possibility (to go to the Gold Coast hub)," Dockers coach Justin Longmuir said.

"He joined the group this week, albeit in a smaller group.

Gov sheds the kilos in isolation

A trimmed down McGovern has impressed in training since the club's return to non-contact drills on Monday, making the most of a new fitness program in quarantine.

"I don't know what Gov's done," Eagles coach Adam Simpson laughed on Wednesday.

"He's looking good, he's in as good a shape as I've ever seen him.

"I think he's a big one for the remote program. He might be advocating for that next year."

NRL and AFL target May return

The National Rugby League, the most popular competition in the country's east coast, and the Australian Football League, which dominates in the south and west, are facing huge financial losses during the lockdown.

Both leagues were forced to abandon their seasons after they had barely started because of the government restrictions put in place to combat the spread of COVID-19, which has infected nearly 6,000 people and caused 49 deaths in Australia.
