3 countries interested in hosting 2019 Pacific Games

The Pacific Games Council has confirmed that three Pacific countries have lodged their expression of interest to host the 2019 Pacific Games after the deadline lapsed on Monday.

The countries are Guam, Samoa and Tahiti.

Tonga was initially confirmed to host the 2019 Pacific Games but withdrew the right to host a few months ago saying the cost of hosting the event will affect the economy.

In press statement the PGC said it is delighted with this response and thanks the three countries for stepping forward with their intention to host the 2019 Pacific Games and delivering a strong vote of confidence in the importance of the Games and the benefits of hosting them.

The statement said the three expressions of interest contain varying levels of details as well as varying levels of financial commitments from their respective governments.

As such, the PGC Executive Board will fully assess the expression of interest documents, conduct site visits where appropriate, before recommending an alternative host by the end of August or early September.
