'I don't want this feeling to ever end' - Dan Carter doco reveals pressure and joy he felt as player

A trailer for a new doco about "the best 10 who ever played the game" has been released.

Dan Carter: A Perfect 10 promises to show a side of former All Black Dan Carter, which has "never been seen before."

The new all-access doco, which releases this month also reveals the highs and lows of success, with Carter's wife, Honor revealing "the fame has been quite hard."

The film tracks Dan Carter's career and journey from rural New Zealand to becoming what some say is the greatest number 10 of all time, and has Carter saying "I don't want this feeling to ever end."

Featuring footage of Carter playing rugby with his father and revealing the heartbreak of his injuries before the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the doco promises to show some of the intense pressure of the sport on Carter and those around him.

The trailer also hints at criticism of the media for their commentary on the game and the players.

Those involved in the doco are promising to reveal All Blacks legend Dan Carter's private life.

Featuring footage of Carter playing rugby with his father and revealing the heartbreak of his injuries, the film has interviews with Dan's wife Honor Carter, Richie McCaw, Jonny Wilkinson, Beauden Barrett, as well as Carter's family.

All Blacks great Dan Carter has already said that the "intimate" film about his personal life shows his "challenging road" towards the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

"Excited to share with you guys about a project I've been working on over the past 12 months. A film will be coming out which gives a deep insight into my personal life, my career and particularly my challenging road to the 2015 Rugby World Cup," his post said.

The film was shot in Europe, Japan and New Zealand.

"It's definitely more of myself than I've been comfortable giving in the past," Carter said in a statement.

"I've been incredibly lucky in my life with the opportunities I've been given, but I've also had some dark times along the way.

"I hope audiences take away from the film that you can reach your goals no matter where you come from and what you come up against."

Dan Carter: A Perfect 10 is due to receive its world premiere on Monday August 26 ahead of a nationwide release on Thursday August 29.
