Mini Games focuses on development

Women’s football development will be at the forefront of the Pacific Mini Games women’s tournament as Van2017 Local Organising Committee announces its “development of women in sport” legacy programme.

In order to address one of its key Sustainable Development Goals for the event, the Van2017 LOC has created Em Pawa, a counterpart to the Games’ official mascot Nasi.

Em Pawa will be an advocate for messages of equality and non-discrimination, non-violence, supporting of positive and healthy decisions, encouraging others to challenge gender stereotypes, and promote positive change in the home, workplace, community and country.

As the face of Van2017 Em Pawa supports the empowerment of all women and girls and represents strength and perseverance, and has a bold, courageous, respectful and strong character.

In support of Em Pawa, Van2017 has made all women’s football matches free to attend, except the final on the evening of Thursday 14 December for which a ticket will be required.
