Asylum seekers on Manus Island and Nauru could be delayed entry into the United States as a result of President Trump's travel ban earlier this year, according to the ABC.
US officials representing Homeland Security have been assessing refugees on the two Australian-administered detention centres in the Pacific over the last few months, after the US agreed to offer refuge to up to 1,250 people.
But earlier this year the President Trump reduced America's refugee intake from 110,000 to 50,000 people as part of a broader immigration crackdown, and that cap has now been reached the US State Department told the ABC.
The Trump administration had said it would only honour the deal in order to maintain a strong relationship with Australia, and then only on condition that refugees satisfied strict checks.
These included "extreme vetting" interviews that lasted up to six hours, with in-depth questions on associates, family, friends and any interactions with the IS militant group.
The new intake year for the US begins at the start of October.
