Digicel supports Special Olympics Team Nauru

Digicel Nauru today announced its support of AUD$5,000 cash sponsorship for the Special Olympics Team Nauru to participate at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi next month.

Deepak Khanna, Digicel Nauru CEO said: “This is an on-going partnership which stretches years back to support Special Olympics Nauru in major events and now we are stepping up to support the team to attend the World meet.”

Special Olympics Team Nauru will send 7 athletes and 3 officials to the world meet.

Khanna added,” Special Olympics is close to our Founder, Chairman and Interim CEO, Denis O’Brien’s heart and we are very happy to be given this opportunity by Team Nauru to partner with them in this great quest. It is an honour, not only to support your great talent as athletes, but also to see first-hand your hard work, dedication and determination – qualities which make you inspirational role models and ambassadors for Nauru. I thank your athletes and officials for your commitment to representing our country so proudly at the World Summer Games.”

Team Nauru joins over 7,000 athletes from more than 170 countries at the games, which will run for a week from March 14-21.”

Special Olympics Nauru Chair Enid Doae expressed appreciation at the huge support tendered by Digicel Nauru to support Team Nauru to Abu Dhabi.

“2019 is shaping up to be a huge year for our athletes, each of who has worked amazingly hard to qualify for the World Games. We are thankful to Digicel for this great gesture and we are happy that you have come on board as our sponsor.”

“We are taking a team of 7 athletes to the World Games, who’ll take part in athletic event.” 

Team Nauru is due to leave for Abu Dhabi in the first week of March.
