Wallabies duo set to follow in fathers' footsteps at Bledisloe Cup in Sydney

Twenty-five years ago, Scott Sio and Allan Alaalatoa's dads helped Western Samoa make the 1991 Rugby World Cup quarter-finals.

Now Sio and Alaalatoa will continue their family's rugby legacy when they run out for Australia in Saturday's Bledisloe Cup test in Sydney.

And their fathers could not be prouder.

"It's one of those things you never dream of but for the two families, it's very exciting," Tavita Sio said.

The young pair grew up playing junior rugby together in the western suburbs of Sydney.

"We can't wait to get out there and support Allan, Scott and the Wallabies team," Vili Alaalatoa added.

Tavita Sio and Vili Alaalatoa made rugby history when Western Samoa made the quarter-finals at the 1991 World Cup.

"They grow up and you want them to play rugby, and fortunately the boys took it up and now they're better than we were," Tavita Sio said.

"As it's turned out our sons are going to be teammates tomorrow, for a different team to us, but it's going to be great."

Scott Sio made his Wallabies debut against New Zealand in 2013 and has 16 Test caps, having established himself as the Wallabies starting loosehead prop for last year's World Cup.

Brumbies prop Allan Alaalatoa is in line to become the sixth Wallabies debutant of the season, named on the bench for the first time.

Not only is Alaalatoa set to make his Wallabies debut at the Olympic Stadium tomorrow night, it will also be the first time he has actually been to a Bledisloe Cup match in Sydney.

Vili Alaalatoa has been attending the Sydney Bledisloe religiously for decades, but not Allan.

"We had this Pacific Island tradition that the elders attend whatever's available and the kids will have their time," he said.

"So he's never seen a Bledisloe Cup before, one because we didn't have tickets and two, too pricey, we couldn't afford it, but to have him playing there tomorrow I can't believe it."

The 22-year-old no longer needs a ticket given his status as a Wallabies debutant and he already is guaranteed best seat in the house.
