PNG Hunters welcome newcomer

A player has been recruited from a Digicel Cup franchise to join the PNG SP Hunters squad in the training camp this week.

The 25-year-old captain of the Gulf Isapea team, Bernard Goma, made his first appearance in the Hunters training camp this week after playing 13 round games with Gulf Isapea in the Digicel Cup competition.

Goma started playing in local competitions in schools. His move from the national level in the Digicel Cup and into the international level was a quick one.

PNG SP Hunters coach Michael Marum told the media that due to a lot of injuries to his players, Goma was recruited as a backup after seeing his potential at the national level.

“Ben is an outstanding player and his performing ethics, potential skills and leadership were the drive for his selection. Moreover, a couple of our players are down with injuries and a backup set is needed,” Marum said.

Goma is elated to join his dream team and said he is very happy and passionate to play with such a well-known team that represents the country at the international competition.

“Thanks to the PNG Hunters officials for seeing the potential in me and I hope to make it count and prove them right,” he said.
