Oceania GIR Coordinator due to visit Nauru

The Regional Coordinator for “Get Into Rugby” from Oceania/World Rugby, Tihrani Uluinakauvadra, is scheduled to arrive in Nauru tomorrow for a short visit.

President Baron Waqa and his Government have reportedly given their full backing for Uluinakauvadra to meet with the Education Department, various Schools, Principals and Teachers to introduce the “Get Into Rugby” programme to schools and how it can enhance what the schools already do.

The programme is active globally and a major part of it is being delivered through schools.

It does not replace anything Nauru schools are already doing, but GIR gives schools and teachers another set of skills, tools and an additional option for sports and physical education activities they can deliver.

Meanwhile a Rugby Kids GIR Session will be held tomorrow (Saturday, September 3) at Linkbelt Oval from about 3pm to 6pm (after the men’s AFL).

The session is for U12, U9 and U6 Girls & Boys and no rugby experience is needed.

All kids are welcome to come along and join in and have fun.

Uluinakauvadra will be taking part in this session so it will be great to have a good turn out and as always, all parents and any others who are interested are welcome to come along and join in and have some fun running around with the kids as well.

National reps – Nauru 7s squad

In 5 weeks time the Nauru Rugby 7s Development Squad will be in Noosa to compete in the Noosa International 7s Festival on the 8th-9th October.

The squad is training every day except for Sundays and are developing well.

The dates and host for this year’s Oceania 7s have been announced.

The Nauru 7s will compete in the Oceania 7s on the 11th & 12th November, which will be one month after the Noosa 7s, giving them a good time for recovery and preparation for Oceania, which this year will be hosted in Suva, Fiji.
