Nauru President visits Taiwan

Nauru President Baron Waqa has arrived in Taiwan, accompanied by a nine-member entourage for a six-day official visit to the Republic of China

During his stay in Taiwan, Waqa will meet with President Ma Ying-jeou, Foreign Minister David Lin and other senior government officials, and visit central and southern Taiwan, according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement.

Waqa is visiting Taiwan for the 10th time and the third time as president of the Republic of Nauru, the statement said.

Taiwan and Nauru have maintained cordial relations with numerous cooperation projects, spanning agriculture, medical services, public health, the development of clean energy, human resource development and cultural exchanges, the Foreign Ministry added.

Nauru, one of the 22 countries that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan, has lent its support to Taiwan's participation in international organizations and activities, the ministry stressed.
