Miss Nauru 2016 crowned

It was the nation’s most talked about event – The Beauty Pageant, Miss Nauru 2016.

The programme was planned since November last year after ten young women signed up to participate in the pageant.

They did photo shoots for this year’s calendar, going around the island taking pictures at some beautiful spots in Nauru. There was also an interview session with Miss Nauru 2015 the lovely Miss Kauai Oppenheimer and 2 other panels. Then the fundraiser at The Bay where they entertained the guests by doing a few hula dances. Attending the Independence Church service and marching to the government buildings during the flag raising ceremony.

With all of that came the big night, the night everyone had been waiting for, The Miss Nauru Grand final which was held at the centennial hall on Thursday 4th of February.

The ten contestants sparked up the stage with their beauty, glamour and stunning outfits. It was magnificent.

There were four categories, traditional wear, sarong, Vegas and evening wear. All of the contestant’s traditional wear was beautifully made specifically for the night and each of the contestants wore their hand woven and handmade outfits with pride. Costumes were locally made and the materials used have deep meanings which were well presented during their catwalk.

In the sarong wear, again the women owned the stage with different types of style ties and knots with only one piece of lavalava.

Vegas category was the main highlight out of all outfits. The contestants wowed the audience strutting in the glittery costumes down the catwalk.

Closing of the night cam the evening wear, the contestants gracefully walked the catwalk one last time. They were all elegant and wonderful.

The People Choice sponsored by Digicel, whereby people had to text in for their personal choice was won by Miss Eigigu – Unique – Lee Dick.  Over 7,600 texts were received with Unique receiving over 2,000.
